TESOL-Ukraine, language center Aceskills International, UK are pleased to announce a call for participation in Summer Institute 2013.
Course outline
Aim of the Course
The course is aimed at developing teaching skills and raising the teachers' awareness of the main components of the teaching/learning process.
The course will benefit experienced and practicing teachers of English as a foreign language who want to broaden their knowledge within the field.
Brief content of the course
- Definitions (EFL/ESOL, teacher's roles). Icebreakers.
Overview of the basic contemporary methodologies/approaches to teaching foreign languages (constructivist, experiential learning, reflective teaching, student-centered communicative approach etc).
- Lesson Planning. Aims, objectives. Interaction patterns. Teaching receptive skills: lesson frameworks, learner-centered activities maximizing language practice. Instructions, instruction checking questions.
- Teaching vocabulary in the target language. Language analysis. Student-centered techniques to convey meaning, form and pronunciation. Lesson frameworks for a vocabulary lesson. Concept checking questions.
- Teaching productive skills (Speaking and Writing). Lesson frameworks. Minimizing teacher talking time and optimizing the students’ language practice. Useful activities for teaching speaking and writing.
- Intercultural awareness. Main and supplementary materials used to teach EFL/ESOL in Cambridge colleges and language schools. Online resources.

INVITED TRAINERS
Dr Yulia Avsiukevich
Born in Ukraine, Yulia received Master Degree in Linguistics and Translation in 2002, has a PhD degree in Education (Theory and Methods of Learning and Education: Germanic languages), 2009.
In 2012 she finished the course in International Business English Training in London and obtained the Certificate of IBET with distinction from TrinityCollege.
At present, she is finishing CELTA course with PTLLS (preparing to teach in a life-long sector) at CambridgeRegionalCollege.
Dr Avsiukevich has gained 11 years’ experience of teaching and administration in Higher Educational Institutions of Ukraine and UKdeveloping courses and materials in General/Business/Academic English.
She participated in the workshops, seminars and conferences in Scotland, Italy, England and Ukraine.
Since 2007 Yulia has lived in the UK.

Transportation
Participants are responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from the Summer Institute site. Please plan to arrive on Sunday, June 30. The Institute ends at 12:00 on July 5.
Hotel Information
Lodgingwill be available at the comfortable Institute hotel (kitchen utensils, fridge, TV, Internet access, shower boxes, sport complex etc.). A special fee for the participants will be about 50 UAH a day per person in a double-bed room.

SELECTION CRITERIA
Successful applicants will have the following skills and competencies:
- avery good command of English
- ability and willingness to work hard as part of a team with other participants
- ability and willingness to disseminate the knowledge you will receive in the region you come from
- active listening and communicative skills
- preference will be given to the participants who have never participated in the Summer Institute before.
