Minutes of June 17, 2017 RAMAC Meeting
Warren Field
The meeting was called to order at 9:10 AM by President Jerry Nystrom. It was quite windy and there was no flying prior to the meeting. There were 14 persons present including two guests.
There were no comments on the Minutes of the May 9 distributed by email.
Treasurer Brian Tahti reported by phone that we have $4309 per our last bank statement.
All of the safety netting and its suspension wiring has been removed by persons unknown. This occurred between Thursday evening and Saturday morning. Field Marshal Robert Whitney noted that we should give its replacement highest priority. Dan Joseph will put together a cost estimate (the new fence lines may not be exactly the same) and obtain approval of the expenditure by phone.
Health issues reported concerned Brian Tahti’s mom who had broken her hip and is now in an assisted living facility.
The Broken Prop Trophy was reawarded to Brian Snider due to a mid-air delamination of the wing spar. This was on a Free Wing A-10 twin ducted fan on its maiden flight
OLD BUSINESS: The field has been mowed and trimmed by a contractor. Fire danger is still very high and all smoking should be confined to the gravel surfaced portion of our site. Most of our plastic water jugs have failed. We use these for fire extinguishing water and watering the trees. If you have any 3 – 5 gal jugs you can donate, please bring them to the field, full of course. Our club is not participating in the Benton Field Fathers Day event this year as we had no volunteers to put our “table” together.
NEW BUSINESS: The “July 4” fly-in will be on Saturday, July 8. beginning at 8:00 AM. Dan Joseph will organize the event. Please give him a call and work with him to staff the event.
Brian Snider’s son William is working on his Eagle Scout award. He needs to organize, fund and lead to completion a project for a non-profit. This project plan must be approved by the Scouts. William flys with his dad at our field and is suggesting that his project be toward improvements at our flying site. He has suggested improving our BBQ pit, building two new flight stands, painting all the stands and improving access for handicapped persons. A motion to have William begin putting together a written project description was made, seconded. and agreed unanimously. He welcomes your thoughts on exactly he should include. Dan Joseph will help him with selecting maintenance jobs to be included.
The frequency control board is ratty and will be removed and not replaced. We are going to make another try at getting a plaque containing the names of deceased members. It will be placed where the control board was. A notice board may also be placed there. Dan Joseph will work on this project.
The runway will need maintenance either this summer or next. The cost of the last reseal job was $2400 in July 2014.
Have you noticed that Dan Joseph’s name appears a lot. Please, if you can take over from or help Dan with one of these projects, step up!
The meeting adjourned at 10 AM.
