Dear Parents;

Greetings! My name is RoxaneCoronand I am your child’s French I teacher. I arrived in Louisiana, from Belgium, in 2002 after being a teacher and educational consultant in France, Belgium, Italy and Vietnam for a total of 21years of experience.

There are many reasons to learn French: maybe your child knows people from French or Cadjinorigin, maybe he/ she has visited or plans to visit one of the 75 French-speaking countries contributing to the global economy, maybe he/she is excited to take part in the pen pal project with Lycée Redon in Brittany. He/ she is maybe thinking of taking the AP French exam in French V to possibly earn 16 college credits and have a minor in French paid for. Whatever the reasons: “Bienvenue!”

My first goal, through this class, is to help your child be able to communicate at the Novice Mid level of French proficiency (A1 level in Europe) as well as appreciate a variety of French cultures including the Louisiana culture (Louisiana lists French as an official language). While learning French your child will also develop a better understanding of his/her own native language (French provides the basis for a least 35% of the English vocabulary and, the French grammar will help him/her with the English grammar!)

In class,we will cover the five (5) first chapters of the “Bien DitI“textbook(and workbook) and the grammar rules of all chapters (85% of all French grammar rules will be learned then). Classroom supplies consist of a binder with 3 dividers: (1) Communication -video activities and grammar-, (2)Culture –songs and readings-, (3) Tests/quiz. I will also ask for different color ink pens and at least one composition bookfor daily routine writing. I also suggest another one to create an alphabetical vocabulary list. Each student will choose a partner to help him or her in case he/she is absent. Tutoring and advanced French practice can be scheduled with French Honor Society students every day at lunch by registering in class. The website myhrw.com will also be used at home for online review. Your child username is______His/her pass code is ______.

I would like to ask for your involvement in this educational process. Please, stress the importance of fully participating during class time, study notes every day, complete assignments due and practice independently online after each lesson. All homeworks, projects and tests are on my board and be reminded with Learning a language is a long, continuous and everyday process and we just have a semester!

During the school year, feel free to contact me by calling the school office during my planning time (1stperiod) or by email at . I will also contact you to keep you updated about our French activities at the school (see a draft calendar in attachment). Please return the bottom of this letter with your preferred contact email address as well as comments or questions. Thank you in advance for your collaboration. I am looking forward to the wonderful opportunity to enthuse your child toward bilingualism.

Respectfully,

RoxaneCoron

-The use of translators is considered cheating. Students who use translators will not receive credit for their work. can be used to translate words and not phrases. can be usedfor conjugation and sentence correction.
