Job Description
Post Title: Year Group Leader
Responsible to: Headteacher
Grade:TLR2
This is a senior post within the school which carries with it membership of the Senior Leadership Team. The postholder will ensure the smooth running of the school and contribute to initiatives to improve/develop the school’s response to Government legislation and Children’s Services guidelines. The postholder is accountable to the Headteacher.
Main Purpose of the Post
In addition to those professional responsibilities that are common to all teachers in the school, the postholder’s key accountability will be for raising the standards of teaching, learning and attainment in their Year Group.
Professional Responsibilities
The postholder will be required to exercise his/her professional skills and judgement to carry out, in a collaborative manner, the professional duties set out below:-
Making an impact on the educational progress of pupils beyond those directly assigned
- Ensuring that pupils receive their entitlement to a broad and balanced curriculum, meeting the requirements of the National Curriculum;
- Ensuring that pupils experience an educational programme that is personalised to the particular needs identified through a robust assessment system;
- Assisting the Headteacher in the development and monitoring of the curriculum and implementation of the school assessment policy;
- Ensuring that appropriate attainment targets exist for individual pupils across the curriculum;
- Co-ordinating the work of a team of teachers and teaching assistants to ensure continuity and progression of curriculum;
- Contributing to school self evaluation;
- Liaising with the SENCO and external support agencies;
- Ensuring pupil portfolios, progress files and school reports are completed in accordance with school policies;
- Implementing and supporting inclusion across the curriculum.
- Ensure that pupil discipline is maintained in the Year Group in line with the School’s policies and practices.
Leading, developing and enhancing the teaching practice of others
- To hold regular Year Group Meetings as required;
- To co-ordinate the review of designated curriculum policies;
- Participate in the development of curriculum initiatives in line with local and national requirements;
- Contribute, as required, to the preparation of the school timetable and to curriculum reviews;
- To co-ordinate target setting, assessment records and analysis of data;
- Attend Senior management Team meetings as required;
- To support the Head with the management of the annual testing programme;
- To contribute to Governor meetings and reports as required;
- Monitoring the quality of teaching and learning and sharing judgements with teachers and support staff as appropriate;
- Identifying key professional development needs;
- Ensuring that these are addressed through the provision of high quality coaching and mentoring:
The postholder will be professionally accountable for the work of colleagues, acting as performance management team leader to Teachers in their Year Group.
The postholder will be responsible for the induction of new staff and will ensure appropriate provision and oversight of the activities of parents and others working in a voluntary capacity.

General Responsibilities
To carry out the professional duties of a school teacher identified in the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions.
To lead, manage and develop the following subject/s as outlined in the specific duties of a Subject Leader (Ref: Subject Leader Job Description)
