1960s Culture Project
The Project
1. You will be assigned a song and artist from the 1960s
2. You will research about the artist or band
o Members
o Start and end of band
o Why popular?
o What type of music did they play (rock, folk etc)
3. The song assigned – read the lyrics, listen to it.
o What is the song’s message or theme?
o How does the music (instruments/sound etc) match the lyrics?
4. What can you learn about American culture or culture in general from the song AND the artist/band?
What you are turning in to me + grading criteria: Total: 50 pts
· Either a 5 slide PPT (little to no words) OR a poster (little to no words) -20 pts
§ Pictures are appropriate (you can defend why you chose them)
§ Slides are organized and make sense with the information being presented by you
§ Slide is not distracting or overwhelming with animation etc
· Notes you took for research + citations -10 pts
o Include citation
o Organized – not just random information jotted all over the place
· Presentation notes -20
o Match the ppt or poster
o Information is relevant and shows that some thought has been put into answering the questions
o Organized
o Complete – include all the information asked for
Be sure to put some thought into 3 and 4 – those may take some time.
HINT: Find the lyrics online and listen to the song WITH the lyrics
HINT: Use some of my questions as KEYWORDS when searching online about your band/artist
HINT: Youtube has all the groups/artists – or should anyway. Let me know if you can’t find them on Youtube OR any other music site.
HINT: Those of you who are AMERICAN – talk to your parents about the music – some of them may have been teenagers during the 1960s!
