Holiday Club – Polar Explorers

This summer, the Polar Explorers are getting ready to go on some fantastic expeditions. Come and join us on our expeditions as we have fun learning about people in the New Testament who will help to show us that no-one is too anything to be part of God’s big expedition. This year’s holiday club is running from Tuesday 25th to Friday 28th August for children aged 5-11 years. If you have children who would like to come or know of friends or family who would be interested please do invite them along. Booking forms can be found at the back of church or you can book online at If you know now that your children will be coming, please do sign up – having an idea of numbers really helps with planning. So far, only 12 children have signed up!

Holiday ClubHelpers Meeting

There will be a meeting at the Rectory on Tuesday 21st July at 8pm to finalise plans for all the activities in this year’s holiday club. Please come along if you are a holiday clubhelper this year, or if you are interested in finding out a bit more about what’s involved in helping at holiday club – with several of our regular helpers away this year we would love to welcome some new faces on board! If you can’t make it but will definitely be able to help please ensure that you let Claire Bills know.

Helpers needed at Junior Church and Sunbeams

Sunbeams and Junior Church take place in the church on Sundays during the 10.30am service and both groups are in real need of new helpers. If you think you might be able to volunteer to help with our wonderful children’s work on Sunday mornings please speak to Sarah Moppett (junior church – 974 4442) or Claire Sheard (sunbeams 07948 834250). Helpers are usually rota’d on about once every 6 weeks so you only need to give a small amount of your time. Helpers are not required to do any preparation before the session – just turn up on the day. There’s no standing up in front of lots of children (unless you’d like to!); in junior church you work with a small group on the week’s theme and in sunbeams you play with the children, read stories and help them do a simple craft.

Seniors’ Coffee

The next Seniors' Coffee Morning will be at Bradmore Garden Centre on Tuesday 14th July at 10.30 am. If you would like a lift please meet at the Church car park at 10.15 or contact David Dunford on 981 6821 if you would like to be collected from home. Newcomers always made welcome.

London to Paris Bike Ride

AverylRushby’s son Christopher is cycling from London to Paris in 4 days between 10th and 13th July, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. He would be very grateful for any sponsorship – there is a form at the back of church. Thanks from Averyl.

The Snowdrop Project

Many of the women at St Giles will know about The Snowdrop Project, a Christian project supporting women that have been victims of trafficking in the UK. They are holding a fundraising skydive event at Langar Airfield on 18th July and some of the brave jumpers really need sponsorship if they are to reach their £500 target. Some of the women that have benefitted from the project are also taking part in the skydive. Please follow the link below to sponsor them in this exciting challenge!

Many thanks.

St Giles’ Camping Weekend

The now annual caravan and camping weekend takes place this year from Friday 17th – Sunday 19th July at Sherbrooke Scout Campsitein Calverton. It is self-catering but everyone joins together for a big BBQ on Saturday, and to have fun together during the day. Please see Martin Crew for booking or more details.

Project Sri Lanka Update

“As I write this I am preparing to leave for Sri Lanka and as you read this, I will have arrived. I'd like to update everyone and thanks those who kindly supported my fund-raising activities. Thanks to you I have raised the required £2000 and am part way to fulfilling this amazing and (probably) challenging life experience. I shall be staying in a tent in the post-Tsunami communities, helping in both the school and the community itself, which is still very much in turmoil some 15 years later. I hope that my friends and I manage to help those affected by the disaster in some small but significant way. I shall definitely try.Thank you all.” Natasha DarkinPrice

Save The Date: Tuesday 22ndSeptember

There will be a prayer evening at St Giles on Tuesday 22nd September. The theme will be 'Living Life to the Max' which will help us to explore how we can develop our gifts from God. There will be more details to follow after the summer.

Messy Church is Moving

The last Messy Church session before the summer takes place this Thursday 16th July, in the Rectory garden. There will be a bouncy castle for all the children to enjoy and plenty of picnic food for everyone to share. Come along straight from school at 3.45pm to join in the fun. From September, Messy Church is moving to Monday afternoons, to better suit the availability of volunteers. The sessions will be just the same as always, taking place in church and generally on the first Monday of each month. Look out for the autumn term card in the back of church and dates will also be advertised in the bulletin.

Philip Project

This year’s Nottingham Philip Project concluded last weekend.

Praise the Lord that we have seen Christian International students really grow in 'How to interpret the Bible' and also how to pass on the message of the Bible in various ways.

Please pray that the knowledge and skills they have learned will be honed in the coming months and years as they are now better equipped to serve our Lord Jesus Christ in their fellowships in this country and as they return to various countries all over the world.

We thank God that 3 people at St Giles have been able to serve as Mentors to the students this year. We are now planning Philip Project for 2015-6 and ask you to pray for another group of International students willing to learn and grow during their time studying in the UK. Thank you for your prayers. If you want to know more about the Philip Project talk to Claire and Andrew Barker.

Pray for the Edinburgh FI team, that their time as part of the Edinburgh International Outreach (27th June – 25th July) would help them in their spiritual growth and would grow their passion for reaching out to international students. Pray also for the students who will be in Edinburgh in July, that they would hear about our Globe Café, come along, and have their time in the UK transformed.

Creator God,

you made us all in your image:

may we discern you in all that we see,

and serve you in all that we do;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.
