cologne, Germany, April 11, 2014 – The all-new Ford Tourneo Courier will offer growing families and urban motorists with active lifestyles best-in-class fuel efficiency, space and exclusive safety features when it is delivered to the first customers in spring 2014.
Ford’s small people mover delivers outstanding luggage and passenger space, with 708 litres boot space* with all seats in place – 60 litres more than its direct competitors – and excellent access to the rear seats through twin sliding doors.
The stylish five-seater also achieves best-in-class fuel efficiency across diesel and petrol engines. The 95 PS 1.6-litre Duratorq TDCi engine achieves 3.7 l/100 km (76.3 mpg) and 97 g/km CO2 emissions**; and the multi-award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost offers 5.2 l/100 km (54.3 mpg) and 119 g/km*** – 15 per cent better than the closest rival.
The all-new Tourneo Courier breaks new ground for safety features as the first-in-segment to offer a comprehensive standard restraint system including knee and curtain airbags, and advanced technologies such as Tyre Pressure Monitoring. Voice-controlled Ford SYNC with Emergency Assistance is available to help occupants to call the local emergency services in the event of an accident.
“All-new Tourneo Courier is nippy and compact, and packs an unbelievable amount of space into a small package,” said Paulo Giantaglia, chief programme engineer, Tourneo Courier, Ford of Europe. “Young families want a car that is smart and well-equipped, but also practical, safe and economical to run – and the Tourneo Courier is just that.”
Exceptional space and practicality
The versatile all-new Tourneo Courier’s exceptional space for people and luggage also includes 97 mm more headroom for front occupants than its direct rivals; and in the rear, 67 mm more headroom and 59 mm extra legroom.
The flexible rear compartment features 60/40 split rear seats with a convenient tip/tumble folding mechanism, providing 1,656 litres of space with the seats folded down – enough for bulky sports equipment or camping gear. Access to the rear cabin is made easier by sliding rear doors that are 30 mm wider than its direct competition.
A clever adjustable package tray is a segment-first feature and offers multiple height positions in the luggage compartment, sliding neatly behind the rear seat backs when not required.
Throughout the interior, the all-new Tourneo Courier offers new levels of material quality, craftsmanship, detail solutions and equipment. A class-leading range of stowage solutions includes a large centre console capable of storing A4 documents and small laptops; a full-width overhead stowage shelf; and a drawer under the front passenger seat. The unique new MyFord Dock option stores, mounts and charge mobile devices such as phones and navigation systems.
Customers can specify smart technologies including Rear View Camera; an integrated SD-card navigation system; and Ford SYNC with Emergency Assistance. Technology enabling drivers to control their favourite smartphone apps using voice commands – Ford SYNC with AppLink – will be introduced later in 2014.
The Tourneo Courier is available in three distinctive series: the affordable Ambiente series, and the more upmarket Trend and Titanium series. The Titanium model features as standard: climate control, cruise control with Speed Limiter, automatic headlights and wipers, plus 16-inch seven-spoke alloy wheels, rear privacy glass, and integrated roof rails.
Class-leading dynamics, comprehensive powertrain range
The new vehicle is based on Ford’s latest global small-car platform – shared with models including the Fiesta and B-MAX – and the chassis has been tuned to deliver class-leading driving dynamics, with excellent comfort and agile handling.
The latest electric power-assisted steering technology helps to achieve precise and confident steering while also reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions compared to a traditional hydraulic system.
All-new Tourneo Courier’s highly-efficient diesel and petrol engines are all paired with manual transmissions, and fuel-saving Auto-Start-Stop is available as an option throughout the range.
In addition to the 1.6-litre diesel and 1.0-litre EcoBoost engines, customers can specify the 75 PS 1.5-litre diesel that also betters all rivals with 103 g/km CO2 and 3.9 l/100 km (72.3 mpg). One-year/30,000 km service intervals are offered throughout the range.
Segment-first safety features
The Tourneo Courier introduces a wide range of segment-first safety features including side curtain airbags, knee airbags and second-row seat beltminders. These are part of a comprehensive standard restraint system that also features driver, passenger and side thorax airbags, and ISOFIX child seat attachment points.
The Tourneo Courier also offers Speed Limiter and Tyre Pressure Monitoring. The standard Electronic Stability Control system includes Hill Start Assist, Emergency Brake Assist, Traction Control, Roll-Over Mitigation and Trailer Sway Control (functional with a Ford factory-fit tow bar).
The all-new Tourneo Courier completes Ford’s line-up of four Tourneo people movers alongside the Tourneo Connect, Grand Tourneo Connect and Tourneo Custom.
