To all adults with Parental Responsibility

ELECTION OF PARENT GOVERNORS: NOMINATIONS

There is a vacancy for a parent governor to serve on the governing body of Millbrook Infant School. We are very keen to encourage anyone with Parental Responsibility for children in our school to nominate themselves to fill this place. Details of what you will need to do to be nominated are given on the reverse of this letter.

Parent governors are elected by other parents and are vital to our governing body. They share equally with other governors the responsibility for carrying out the governing body's wide range of statutory duties; however they are not responsible for the daily running of the school. Their role is at the strategic or policy-making level in the school.

Over the past few years the Department for Education has focussed on the importance of the governing Body and now requires them to actively recruit people with specific skills. A recent skills audit of the current governing body shows a need for additional support for legal and financial matters. If you have experience in these areas please consider applying for the role. Your experience does not need to be directly related to education.

However we do not wish to narrow the field of candidates so if you have an interest in supporting the school please apply.

We hold monthly Governors meetings that last about 2 hours and of course you will need to set aside time to prepare for these meetings. You will be ably supported by the Clerk to the Governors and the Chair.

We work very hard to target governor’s time effectively and serving as a school governor in your local community is a very rewarding experience.

The term of office is usually four years but governors are free to resign at any time during that period.

To find out more about what being a governor at this school is like, you can contact me via the clerk to the governors on 01536 483714 or at , and I will be very willing to answer any questions.

If you would like to take the opportunity to put yourself forward as a candidate, you may only do so using an official form which can be downloaded from the school website www.millbrook-inf.northants.sch.uk and follow the link to Governors. Alternatively collect a paper copy from the office. Nomination forms must be returned by Monday 18th September 2017 either by email to or directly to the school office. Details of the election process will follow once nominations have closed.

Yours sincerely

Mrs Maralyn McLennan P.T.O

Chair of Governors

Who can be a parent governor?

All those who have parental responsibility and are over the age of 18 are eligible to stand for election. The only exception is parents who work at Millbrook Infant School for more than 500 hours per year are not eligible.

There are some circumstances that disqualify an individual from serving as a school governor. If you wish to stand, you will also need to complete the self-declaration of eligibility form to state that there are no reasons for being disqualified from serving as a governor and provide evidence of identity and address if required.

How to nominate yourself?

If you would like to put your name forward please complete the official form. Write a brief personal statement (250 words maximum) to support your nomination remembering the specific skills we are looking for at this time are financial and/or legal. This will then be circulated to all parents to help them decide who to vote for.

The official form can be downloaded from the school website www.millbrook-inf.northants.sch.uk and follow the link to Governors.
