Conclusion:

During the lab, it was determined that as the amount of vinegar increased, the amount of CO2 lost also increased. Interestingly,[CBJ1][CBJ1] the initial total mass and the final total mass stayed surprisingly[CBJ2][CBJ2] consistent even though the amount of CO2 lost was increasing. By staggering the amounts of vinegar and H2O, when the amount of vinegar rose, the amount of CO2 released went up as well. The limiting reactant of the acids in the Alka-Seltzer seems to quickly react with the H2O and vinegar, releasing the CO2 very quickly. After 8 runs were done, the difference in the initial total mass and final total mass ranged from 1.4 to 2.8 grams.[CBJ3][CBJ3]

Analysis:

The hypothesis for this lab is that as the vinegar amount increased, the CO2[CBJ4][CBJ4] lost would increase. Through a general trend of the CO2 lost, the lab had proven to show that the hypothesis is true. The trend found was, by starting with 35mL of H2O, decreasing the H2O by 5mL, and increasing the vinegar by 5mL, that as the vinegar amount slowly staggered [CBJ5][CBJ5]up, the amount of CO2 lost from the Alka-Seltzer increased as well. Although the lab had stayed in-line with the procedure, some sources of error from the lab may have been that the beakers used for the lab [CBJ6][CBJ6]might not have been cleaned thoroughly so other compounds and/or chemicals may have been in it. [CBJ7][CBJ7]Also, the vinegar may have been tampered since the cap on the bottle may have been left off. [CBJ8][CBJ8]One other thing is that some of the Alka-Seltzer tablets were just left out of the packets and then used for the lab the next day and during that time, the tablet may have contained other chemicals and/or compounds[CBJ9][CBJ9].[CBJ10][CBJ10]

[CBJ1]Really- remember I don’t care about whether you found the lab interesting or not

[CBJ2]Don’t care

[CBJ3]What were the numbers and % found

[CBJ4]Amount

[CBJ5]Find another word – you had regurla intervals

[CBJ6]Not a value that was calculated is in this lab – why not. Don’t talk – calculate and report

[CBJ7]Don’t let me ever see this made up excuse again.

[CBJ8]I can’t even address this.

[CBJ9]Tghere is a lot of information missing- I think you have to spend a lot more time thinking about what was important and found in the lab

[CBJ10]Think like a junior not a freshman
