Ancient Chinese Newspaper
You are a reporter/editor working for a newspaper in ancient China. You are to create a newspaper that chronicles life in ancient China. Each article in your paper should have a headline, a photo (drawing or picture), and be at least 3-4 well-written paragraphs in your OWN words. You should includeat least 2of the following topics below in numbers 1-10for your newspaper page, and at least 2 of the topics in 11-17.
- The building of the Terra Cotta army
- The building of the Great Wall
- The Silk Road (include a map)
- Confucius and Confucianism
- Legalism
- Daoism
- An obituary of Shi Huangdi or any of the emperors
- Articles on one of the dynasties: Xia, Qin, Shang, Han, Zhou
- Some of the latest Chinese achievements or inventions- seismograph, paper, weapons (research- there are many!)
- Any military battles
Please note: It is hard to focus in on one time period in ancient China-so you may skip around between 1500 BC with the Shang dynasty and 100 BC with the Silk Road.
For the topics below- numbers 11-17- you may use more modern ideas- and research today’s Chinese fashion, food, sports, etc. The weather may be the weather in any area of China for this week.Choose at least 2 from this list.
Here are some ideas:
- Oracle bones predictions
- Sports (you may use more modern ideas- like ping pong, handball)
- Political cartoon
- Weather
- Chinese recipes
- Chinese fashion
- a comic strip
For this project- you will work on your own newspaper.
I am looking for excellent research and writing in the short articles, pictures can be hand-drawn or printed and should reflect your articles. Everything must be written in your OWN words and it must be all factual- after all, you are a reporter so you only report facts.
You willdo research online in our classroom and you can get some basics from our textbook. This project t is designed to look like a newspaper so the writing should be in even columns. You cantype it up or handwrite it neatly. You will need to do some cutting and pasting of the articles, pictures, and anything else you want to include. Be sure to design your newspaper so that there is little white space and everything fits well.
You will have fourclass periods to work on this. That is a lot of class time- so take your time and make it great!
Final newspaper is due at the START of class on Friday Feb. 10
