Elizabeth Palin Tarot – The Three Card Spread

DVD Instructional Manual and Companion Guide

Thank you for purchasing my new DVD!

I am very excited to offer it to you, and know you will enjoy using it. I’ve worked with industry professionals to make it informative, easy-to-use, and most importantly, fun!

You may print out a copy of this manual and companion guide, save it to your computer, or both. I suggest to print out a copy and keep it with you as you use the DVD.

First, we’ll go over the basics of use for those of us who are not DVD experts (me included!).

THE BASICS

After inserting the DVD, the MAIN MENU will be on the screen. This menu shows all of the different sections of the DVD. The section that is highlighted in red is the one that will be selected if you press PLAY on your DVD remote control. You will need to use the remote control to properly use all of the sections on the DVD. .

First, turn up your television or computer volume until you can hear the music.

The first time you use the DVD, you will do best to view several sections.

First, press PLAY or ENTER on your remote to play the INTRODUCTION.

After the INTRODUCTION plays, the DVD will return to the MAIN MENU

Next, use the down arrow on your remote control to go to the next section, UNDERSTANDING THE TAROT. You will know you have pressed the correct button when the title turns red.

Press PLAY or ENTER.

UNDERSTANDING THE TAROT is a six minute short film that I wrote and narrated which tells you a little about the cards. There are 78 cards in the Tarot deck. 22 of the cards are called MAJOR ARCANA and the other 56 cards are the MINOR ARCANA.

The MAJOR ARCANA are cards with names, such as THE FOOL, THE WORLD. THE HIGH PRIESTESS, DEATH, and so on.

The MINOR ARCANA consist of four suits; wands (batons), cups, swords, and pentacles. Each suit has an ace through the king, similar to a standard deck of playing cards. The numbers of the cards can be found near the top, in the middle.

After viewing UNDERSTANDING THE TAROT, the DVD will again return to the MAIN MENU.

Now, you can use your down arrow on your remote control to go to the next section, THE THREE CARD SPREAD. This section tells you how to do the three card spread.

After this section is finished, the DVD will return to the MAIN MENU.

Use your remote control down arrow again and press it until you reach the section BEFORE YOU BEGIN – GROUNDING. This section tells you how to do a quick meditation which will prepare you for your reading.

After this section is finished, the DVD will return to the MAIN MENU.

Now you are ready to begin your reading!

After you’ve done the grounding exercise, think of a question you would like the cards to answer. Think of it in a positive way, and you will get a positive answer. You may ask about a relationship, about work, about anything you like. As you are thinking of your question, shuffle the deck and then select three cards. Do this with the deck facing down so that you cannot see which cards you are choosing. Choose the cards from the top, bottom, or anywhere in the deck. Don’t try to think about which cards to choose. Pick three with a clear mind, and go with your feeling for your selections. Once you have the three cards face down in front of you side by side, turn each of them over. Some people read cards differently if they are right side up or upside down, but I do not.

Now that you have your cards, look again to the MAIN MENU of the DVD and press the down arrow on your remote control until the CARD MEANINGS section turns red.

Press ENTER.

This will take you to a new menu, the CARD MEANINGS MENU.

The CARD MEANINGS MENU is divided into MAJOR ARCANA 0-11, MAJOR ARCANA 12-22, SUIT OF WANDS, SUIT OF CUPS, SUIT OF PENTACLES, and SUIT OF SWORDS.

Look at your first card.

If your card has a name written on the bottom, it is one of the MAJOR ARCANA. Look near the top of the card in the middle to see what number is there. Choose the first or second MAJOR ARCANA section based on which contains the number on your card.

If your card does not have a name written on the bottom, it is one of the MINOR ARCANA. Look at the symbols on your card. If it is the ACE of any suit, it will tell you which suit it belongs to. If it is not the ACE, you will still be able to recognize the suit by the symbols on it. Wands are wooden sticks, swords are, well, swords, cups are golden goblets, and Pentacles are circular coins with the pentacle symbol on them. The number of each card will be found near the top, in the middle.

Select the correct section from the CARD MEANINGS MENU and press ENTER.

This will take you to yet another menu, with small versions of all of the cards in that section. Select your card by using the LEFT or RIGHT, UP or DOWN arrow button on your remote control. Keep pressing the button until the card you have is selected. If you’ve accidentally chosen the incorrect section, move the arrow button until you get to RETURN TO CARD MEANINGS and press ENTER to return to the CARD MEANINGS MENU.

Once you have selected your card, I will come up on the screen as well as a large version of your card. I will explain to you in a minute or so what the card means in a reading.

Repeat this process for your other two cards. This will give you your reading.

Congratulations! You now know how to conduct a Three Card Spread Tarot Reading!

Each time you do a reading, you should first do the grounding exercise. If you are doing readings with a group of friends, it is imperative that each person does the grounding exercise and shuffles and selects their own three cards from the deck.

You may do readings as often as you wish.

Also included on the DVD is a section called FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS. If you have a question and have visited this section but it did not answer your question, you may email for an answer. I will not be able to answer specific questions about your reading, but if you are having any difficulty using the DVD or have a question about the Tarot in general, one of my staff will answer your email as promptly as possible. I will also have a section on my website, www.livingproofent.com which will answer some of the other frequently asked questions that come up.

COMPANION GUIDE

In this section, I have included a little about the Tarot cards, as well as a brief description of each card. You can use this section for more insight on your reading, or if you do not have access to a DVD player, you can use the descriptions provided to interpret your cards.

The Major Arcana cards represent states of existence which one cannot change. In other words it represents different phases in your life that you have to go through. What you can change though is your attitude and response to these times. For example you can consider the glass half empty or half full. A more positive reaction to a particular phase in your life can make it much easier to travel through.

The Minor Arcana are trends that you can change. For instance you can view the cards and say I do not need this particular situation or experience and so avoid it. You may for example see possibilities of your car breaking down and so you avoid this by taking the car for a service perhaps sooner than you would have and perhaps avoiding a larger repair further down the line. So your Minor Arcana can show possibilities of instances that can happen which you can avoid or enhance. With the Minor Arcana you always have choices.

Remember we are doing divination on a very basic level to begin with. Once we master this level then we can always move on to a more in depth analysis of the Tarot. For example, we can look further into the symbolism of the cards and their relationship to the Tree of Life and the spiritual psychology. It is a wonderful journey so lets get started with the basics first!

The lower the number in the suit of Wands (this is also true of the suit of Swords) then the more favorable the card. Wands represent Spring too. There is very little negativity with the Wands. The Wands are associated with the element of fire.
