Turnitin Student User Guide
Welcome to Turnitin! Papers submitted to Turnitin are compared against billions of documents online and our local databases of submitted student papers to aid in plagiarism prevention. Any matching text we find is detailed in an originality report sent to your class portfolio. All of Turnitin’s services are accessible online at www.turnitin.com.
Creating Your User Profile All Turnitin users have a unique user profile, which consists of an email address, user password, personal user information, and user preferences. To create a user profile:
1. Go to www.turnitin.com.
2. Click create a user profile on the Turnitin homepage [upper right]
3. Follow the on-screen instructions. You will be asked to create a password [please write it down in a safe place in case you forget it!]; you will also be asked for a class identification number (Class ID) and a class enrollment password: They are:
Spanish 4 Class ID and Password:
1A: Class ID: 4569376 Enrollment Password: nphs4. When you are done creating your profile, follow the directions for student class enrollment wizard.
If you have followed the above directions correctly, your name will appear on my class list for our class when I sign on to Turnitin.
To login to Turnitin:
1. Go to www.turnitin.com.
2. At the top right, enter your email address and user password b.
3. Click Log In to open your Turnitin homepage.
To submit a paper: there are two ways to submit a paper to Turnitin;
you may choose to upload your file or cut and paste your assignment.
1. To upload your paper: Click on your class name and the class portfolio will list the assignment. Then:
A. Click the submit icon next to the assignment in the class portfolio
B. Select file upload from the submission pull down menu
C. Enter the title for your submission
D. Click the browse button and find the paper you want to submit
E. Click submit—you will be asked to confirm the text—click yes. You will receive a digital receipt; if you have submitted your paper correctly, you will be able to view your submission [check to make sure you have submitted your paper correctly!].
2. To cut and paste your paper: Click on your class name and the class portfolio will list the assignment. Then:
A. Click the submit icon next to the assignment in the class portfolio
B. Select cut and paste from the submission pull down menu
C. Enter the title for your submission
D. Cut and paste your assignment into the text box
E. Click submit—you will be asked to confirm the text—click yes. You will receive a digital receipt; if you have submitted your paper correctly, you will be able to view your submission [check to make sure you have submitted your paper correctly!].
