Position Statement (succinct statement of why the position exists)
The Investment Operations Platforms & ProgramsTeam is responsible for operationalising the Investment Management Department strategic agenda. The Team develops and deploys new investment management capabilities and improvement initiatives and ensures that existing investment management platformis maintained and continuously improved.
The Investment Operations Platforms & Programs Project Team works closely with the Senior Investment team fromproject and initiative “early stage initiation” through to “deployment” of new systems, processes and capability into the Investment Department.
The Senior Business Analyst – Direct Investment Management will be responsible for co-ordinating design, development and implementation of investment capabilities onto AustralianSuper’s Investmentplatform. The role will define operating processes and systems across the existingInvestment Platforms within AustralianSuper’s Investment Operating Model. This will include, but not be limited to, engaging with internal and external stakeholders, vendors and suppliers to ensure processes and systems are scalable, robust and satisfy defined business requirements.
The Senior Business Analyst – Direct Investment Managementwill work collaboratively alongside the Manager Direct Investment Platforms and the Manager – Continuous Improvement to assist with on-boarding new Investment capabilities and platforms that support the (multi asset class) direct investment aspirations of AustralianSuper.
Key Duties (what is done, how it is achieved and what the end result is)
  • Responsible for driving the implementation of new investment management capabilities across AustralianSuper’s core asset classes - Equities, Fixed Income, Infrastructure and Property.
  • Define and capture product requirements for direct investment capabilities:
  • Investment processes – including opportunity identification, analysis, assessment and execution
  • Market access – path or origination and investment
  • Process Design / Development / Implementation activities to enhance the Direct Investment Platform
  • Lead the initiation and approval process for new investment capabilities through defining the Conceptual Solution Design (Investment Processes, Operational Design / Platform, Target Operating Model)
  • Identify the tools required to enable direct investment capabilities (e.g. systems, data providers, origination partners, execution methods etc.)
  • Partner with the Direct Investment Management Platform team to define the Technical Design / Development / Implementation activities to enable the Direct Investment Platform
  • Change Management & Integration of the Direct Investment Platform across Asset Classes

  • Responsible for the process of defining and documenting business requirements for key Investment Management capabilities. Requirements will cover both the relevant Portfolio Management team and broader Fund requirements and considerations
  • Support the process of selecting & managing key service providers:
(JP Morgan / Eze Software Group (Order Management System) / FactSet / Bloomberg etc):
-Identification based on comprehensive market / industry scans and capability assessments
-Recommendations
-Service Level Agreement definition and contractual negotiation
-Ongoing performance management / monitoring
  • Support the development of business cases and project plans for the implementation of new or modified capability within the Investment Department and more specifically on the Direct Investment Platform
  • Support the identification and development of platform / initiative business requirements documentation and oversee the management of Request for Proposal processes including the identification of the preferred providers
  • Build strong relationships with shared service functions within AustralianSuper

Part B - Person Specification

Qualifications (Desired, but not mandatory, depending on Industry experience)
  • Tertiary qualifications in Business, Commerce, Finance, Accounting and / or related Industry discipline
  • Relevant Industry related Professional Membership (e.g. FINSIA)

Experience Profile:
  • Broad experience ofdirect Investment from within the Financial Services Sector(either Buy or Sell Side)
  • Detailed knowledge of core investment instruments and products
    (Equities, Fixed Interest, Derivatives, Debt / Loans)
  • Demonstrated leadership role in the development & enhancement of existing & new capabilities
(Defining, designing, implementing and supporting new investment products, processesandsystems)
  • Demonstrated ability to work in highly pressured & complex project environments
  • Demonstrated ability to work concurrently across multiple internal and external project stakeholders
  • Experience / understanding of project methodologies (and co-ordination ofactivities)
  • Experience in delivering projects in the financial services sector
  • Experience in developing investmentoperating models and defining process improvement initiatives
  • Experience in supervising small teams of business analysts and /or technical staff
  • Experience in documenting and updating business process and information flow descriptions
  • Experience in defining and managing business cases, project plans and
  • Experience in the initiation of new projects and methods used to identify & resolve issues
  • Ability to influence internal and external stakeholders to achieve defined and emerging project outcomes
