  • be a permanent employee of the Trust
  • be applying for a season ticket loan to assist with costs of travelling from your home address to your work base.

Monthly instalments will be deducted direct from your salary beginning the month after your season ticket loan cheque is issued to you. However, you can reduce the number of instalments to what suits your circumstances. Kindly contact Finance department if you have a query on deductions madefrom your payslip so that it could be resolved.

*This is the maximum amount HMRC allows us to loan an employee for the purchase of a season ticket for travel to work.

Cheques will only be issued payable to a transport provider for the purchase of a season ticket. Cheques cannot be made payable to an individual or other organisation.

Cheque collection arrangements

We need 10 days to process your application and to arrange for a cheque to be raised.

Before you are issued with your cheque, you will be required to complete a season ticket loan agreement and repayment form. It is your responsibility to:

  • alert payroll if deductions of repayments do not begin as expected
  • ensure you have repaid your season ticket loan in full by your last day of service if you leave the Trust before you have completed all repayments
  • provide a copy of your season ticket to Finance within one month of the date of your loan being issued

Season Ticket Loan and Repayment Agreement

The parties to this agreement are:

Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust (hereinafter known as “The Lender”) and

(herein after known as “The Borrower”)

  • The Lender agrees to make available to The Borrower the sum of £ on loan. The Borrower shall repay an initial monthly payment of £ and then for a period of months, consecutive monthly payments of £
  • The Borrower agrees to use the loan for the purchase of a season ticket for travel between his/her residence and normal place of work.
  • The Borrower may at any time within the period of the loan apply to terminate the agreement by repayment of the full balance outstanding.
  • The Borrower agrees that the Lender shall deduct from the salary of the Borrower amounts of instalments specified above.
  • The Borrower further agrees that:
  • In the event of his/her contract of service with the Lender terminating before completion of repayment of the loan, he/she will repay immediately upon request the balance outstanding. If necessary this will be actioned as a deduction from final pay without further authorisation other than this agreement.

He/she will forward proof of purchase of the season ticket in the form of a photocopy of the season ticket to the Finance Department within one month of the cheque being issued, by e mailing a scanned copy of the ticket to .

  • Should the Borrower fail to fulfil any of his/her obligations under this Agreement, then it will be at the discretion of the Lender whether or not to terminate the Agreement and request immediate repayment of any outstanding sums.

Season Ticket Loan Procedure

Member of staff requests season ticket loan application form from HR.

Application form completed by the member of staff and returned to HR.

HR checks the form to ensure that the applicant is a permanent member of staff and that all the details required have been obtained before sending it to Finance for processing.

Finance processes the application.

Finance processing of application involves:

  • Checking form to ensuring it is completed properly and the season ticket loan agreement is signed by the member of staff, an HR representative and a Finance Manager or nominated deputy.
  • Process cheque made payable to a transport provider(not to an individual).
  • Once cheque is prepared contact the member of staff to advise that the cheque request for the season ticket loan is ready for collection in person (note that identity confirmation is required).
  • Send copy of the loan agreement to Payroll to begin deductions.
