POLICY TITLE: SCENT-FREE WORKPLACE
POLICY STATEMENT
Home and Community Support Services of Grey Bruce is a Scent-free environment. Please do not use scented products prior to coming to work, or while at work. The work place includes a client's home.
Due to the health concerns arising from exposure to scented products, Home and Community Support Services of Grey Bruce has instituted this policy to provide a scent-free environment for all employees and visitors.
Definitions:
“Scents” in this policy means the smells or odours from cosmetics such as perfumes, make-ups, shampoos, deodorants, colognes etc, or from other products such as air fresheners, cleaners, detergents etc.
“Fragrance Free or Unscented” means that there have been no fragrances added to the cosmetic product, or that a masking agent has been added in order to hide the scents from the other ingredients in the cosmetic.
Sample Products
Scents are included in a very large range of products that includes:
Fragrant or fruity shampoo and conditioners
Hairsprays
Some deodorants
Colognes and aftershaves
Fragrances & perfumes
Scented lotions and creams
Potpourri
Industrial and household chemicals and cleaners
Some cosmetics
Air fresheners and deodorizers
Oils
Candles
Some types of garbage bags
High scented markers
Procedure:
Home and Community Support Services of Grey Bruce will take the following steps to implement a Scent-free policy.
All HCSS-GB employees will be informed of this policy and signs will be posted at all sites informing people of the Scent-free environment.New employees will be oriented to this policy when they start employment.
The policy will be incorporated into the HCSS-GB policy manual.
The use of scented products will not be allowed within the sites at any time. In addition, as much as possible all materials used for cleaning will be scent-free.
All visitors will be informed of this policy through signs posted at each site.
HCSS staff with sensitivities to scents should notify their supervisor.
If an HCSS employee experiences a reaction to a scent while in a client’s home they should immediately report this to their Team Leader who will follow-up with the client.
