President’s Note

My neighbor called yesterday and said "I'm so thankful that it's over!" But we all know that it isn't over until IT'S OVER and we will still be entertained by more debates, TV & radio ads, e-mail messages & lots of recorded messages, until the Democrats can come up with a clear winner.

But then, the FUN REALLY STARTS!

So our job now, is to focus on JOHN McCain, support him & funnel all of our efforts to see that he is elected. Once Mr. McCain chooses a running mate, our slate will inspire us to rally VIGOROUSLY!

But another election will occur....the run-off election for Sheriff, between Jim Bowles & Lowell Cannaday. Dates for early voting will be March 31-April 4th and regular vote takes place April 8th. VERY IMPORTANT as the winner will oppose Lupe Valdez!

The Reagan Day Dinner Gals was wonderful and even more special for us...LHRW...when GLEE & RAY HUEBNER were honored with a Grass Roots Award!! We are so proud of you both...and well deserved!

Welcome New Members!

From the DCCRW Feb Newsletter:

2008 TRAC Project Launched!

Joann Messina, DCCRW Vice President

The board voted at its February meeting to support the TRAC project as our community project again this year. Every year it gets bigger and better. This project has enlightened many people, including our elected officials, of the plight of “aging out” foster children. In addition to that benefit, our Republican Women’s Clubs have received a lot of positive publicity from this project in the communities and with TFRW.

For those of you who are not familiar with TRAC:

TRAC stands for Transition Resource Action Center. TRAC is supported by Central Dallas Ministries, a faith-based 501c3 agency serving the working poor in the Dallas area.

TRAC is a centralized assessment/intake and referral center for transitional living services for youth exiting foster and juvenile care in North Texas. This is the only such facility or program in North Texas that exists to comprehensively address the needs of this population. TRAC has numerous partners that choose to leverage their resources to create a one-stop-shop to provide intensive planning and wrap-around services in a single location and case management system, using a small core coordinating staff at TRAC and some staff from collaborating agencies.

TRAC's mission is to connect youth, ages 14-24, who are transitioning from substitute care toward self-sufficiency, with support, planning, and access to community services. TRAC is a collaboration of the Dallas community and federal, state and local governments working together to create positive outcomes for children and adolescents in the court system. Individuals from all levels of government are working together with volunteers, social service agencies and community leaders to get children out of the court system and to keep them out.

MARK YOUR CALENDERS FOR SATURDAY, JULY 26, 2008 for the TRAC PARTY:

Our TRAC project is an annual party we throw for foster children heading off to college in the fall. This is to support and encourage their efforts to get an education and become a productive member of our society. All elected officials and club members are invited to participate. Each young person bound for college will receive a specially prepared gift basket containing various goodies they can use at school, or in their apartments or dorms.

LADIES, start thinking about a “theme” for your basket. You can do your own basket, or go in with other club members to do a joint gift basket. OR, if you don’t have time to shop for the goodies, we will be happy to create a basket with your donations.

We will have more information in the next newsletter. In the meantime, for more information contact:
