UNB Residence Life: Residence Council
Brief Overview
The UNBSJ Residence Council is comprised of an elected body of students. The Residence Council plans and organizes many events throughout the academic year and offer advice and suggestions on Residence Life and community affairs. The Residence Council is expected to plan activities that are inclusive, positive interactions for all residents.
Leadership and Ethics
A leader must recognize their responsibilities as a role model. A leader’s standard of ethics should be established from the beginning of a term, maintained throughout the term, and should be evaluated periodically. A standard of ethics includes respect for and protection of the group members, while keeping in mind the UNB Residence Life Mission Statement as well as the Mission statement of the greater University.
With this in mind, observe the following:
- Maintain and agree upon a high ‘standard of ethics’
- Maintain confidentiality in all matters
- Respect and protect the spiritual, social, intellectual, emotional, physical and vocational wellness of residents
- Respect the convictions and values of the community
- Allow ‘Freedom of choice’ - this includes the right to withdraw from any group activities or from the group itself without pressure from the group members or leaders, and without fear of feeling threatened by humiliation, reprisal, or ridicule
- Respect, and follow the rules, policies and regulations of Residence Life, and work as a member of the House Team with the RAs.
- Act as a role-model for other students. Remember, you are in a leadership position and students do look up to you and watch you whether you see it or not. Be aware of your actions and the potential consequences that may come with them.
