2016Dan Bradley Memorial Scholarship
Amount: $2,500 (to be awarded for the Fall 2016 semester)
Eligibility: Must be 2nd semester 1L, 2L, or 1st semester 3L on first day of class, Fall 2016 and in good standing academically.
Description: Dan Bradley was born in Georgia and raised in an orphanage when both his parents died at an early age. He graduated from Mercer School of Law and dedicated his life as a lawyerto serving the poor and other marginalized groups, such as gay men and women. Mr. Bradley started his legal career in Florida as a staff attorney with a Legal Services program that represented migrant workers. In 1979 he was appointed by President Carter to serve as President of the Legal Services Corporation. Mr. Bradley was instrumental in saving the Legal Services Corporation from being abolished when President Ronald Reagan called for its elimination. The Legal Services Corporation has been the principal federal agency responsible for providing legal services in civil cases to the nation’s poor since 1974.He was also one of the nation’s leading advocates for equal rights for gay Americans and protection from discrimination. Mr. Bradley died of AIDS in 1988 and left a legacy of selfless commitment to access for justice for the poor, minorities, and other marginalized Americans.
Application Materials: Each applicant must submit all of the following information and materials:

- Current resume;
- Your typed response to the essay question in the format prescribed on the scholarship application form.
