SVYM VidyaKiran Report

Reshu: Site Visit

· She told them we are reducing funding for all PUC kids

· They came up with adjustments and said that they have money for about 15 kids.

· They have about Rs. 1,23,216.20 left from last year.

· They want to continue the project and Reshu told them about withdrawing support right away

· They want a one year gap before we can cut cold.

· So we will have to give money for this PUC 1 students this year but they will keep looking for individual sponsors and will continue taking students off the Asha money as and when they get newer donors

· They are trying to reduce costs by getting volunteer teachers to come teach students-most expensive component.

· Working with ex students to come and work with current students to help out, to donate money.

· They also have initiatives for the current children that are concrete social projects for the kids so the kids get into the habit of volunteering and come back and help the organization.

· Our plan is to progressively reduce the amount of kids that we are sponsoring and giving them a year will help them have a path to sustainability.

· They also want to make sure that they spread the word among the local community to teach them the importance of being in school, of education, etc. so that kids actually show up at school.

· The initial plan for this project was to lead them to a path of self-sustainability and it appears that with our plan to phase them out by next year, we will be able to exit them successfully.

· In any event, with the current portfolio of schools that Asha SV supports, this is a project that is sort of not in line with the current kind of schools we have.

· The revised budget was presented. Some of the money that they are getting from SVYM is listed in the budget.

· If we do support this year, we will have to support about 20 new students and the total students in the PUC 2 are 25 and about 15 special courses for students.

· The one big annual event is YUVA PAYANA where they bring the old students to come in and have a good event with everyone which is Rs. 15,000

· The per student cost has gone up and the total is about Rs. 9,25,600

· If we did not take 20 new students this year then the total amount we would have donates is Rs. 7,65,900.

· Overall plan is to reduce the number of students each year.

· There was a discussion about whether this school is taking students only on merit basis-Asha SV had said that the students they support should not be selected based on merit.

· Discussion on whether we should totally stop the sponsorship next year for all kids next year, not just for new students-it seems to be unfair to ask them to handle finding sponsors for all the students next year.

· Fund them for this year and tell them that next year we won’t be able to give funding for next year.

· Suggest to them that they should look for sponsors for not just new PUC 1, but also for PUC 2 and for the special courses.

· Right now the only poll will be about the funding for this year.
