“SECOND CHANCE” SCHOLARSHIP - JEFFERSON

GRANT CRITERIA AND APPLICATION

BACKGROUND: The “SECOND CHANCE” Scholarship is offered by the Fort Atkinson Branch of the American Association of University Women, (AAUW), to a female who plans to continue her education at a vocational/technical college, after having been out of the mainstream of education for more than one year. A tuition grant of a maximum of one thousand dollars, ($1,000), will be awarded and paid directly to the bursar of the school selected by the recipient. Applicants pursuing further education at a vocational/technical college are to be applauded. The AAUW is pleased to have an opportunity to provide this grant.

SECOND CHANCE GRANT CRITERIA
The grant applicants will be judged on following criteria:
  1. Applicants must first qualify as a ‘resident of the Jefferson, WisconsinSchool District:
  2. Realistic goals and personal determination to achieve said goals;
  3. Financial need and/or family circumstances; and,
Preference may be given to women who are in financial need, assuming family financial responsibilities and/or returning to higher education to pursue a degree after an absence.

HELPFUL HINTS TO SCHOLARSHIP APPLICANTS

  1. Complete all items fully. If an item is not applicable, please provide an explanation. DO NOT LEAVE ITEMS BLANK!
  2. Legible and clearly presented material is required. Typed applications are preferred. (A computer word processing disk copy of the application form, (created in the Microsoft WORD format) is available at Circulation Desk of the Jefferson Public Library, Jefferson, WI.
  3. Applications require two current letters of recommendation from non-family members. The letters must represent different areas (e.g. employer, teacher, community member, clergy, etc). Letters of Recommendation should be addressed to the AAUW Scholarship Committee.
  4. Applications MUST include required financial data.
  5. Completed applications must be submitted on or before the due date. Please plan ahead to ensure that you have all of the required materials. GOOD LUCK!

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF TUITION PAYMENT

The scholarship is used for tuition and will be paid directly to the billing office of the school of the recipient’s choice. The tuition payment will be made by the trustee of the Fort Atkinson Community Foundation, (Premier Bank & Trust of Fort Atkinson), with confirming copies sent to the AAUW Scholarship Committee Chairwoman. The recipients will be notified of their selection in late July. The scholarship will be awarded at the September meeting of AAUW and funds will be available to pay tuition for the fall semester.
