Mr P’s Year 11 Easter revision
Remember: the Literature exams are SIX WEEKS after Easter!
1. Poetry on character and voice
a. Create a comparative grid which includes ALL 12 key poems (you can ignore Give, Ruined Maid and Brendon Gallacher). Each column should include a summary of the text, key quotations, themes, list of techniques used, message of the text
b. Using the comparative planning grid and the following question, plan 4 possible essays. Match the poems, trying to use texts which deal with similar themes.
Compare the ways the poets convey ....... in [Poem A and Poem B]
In your answer you should comment on:
· use of language, structure and poetic technique
· message of the texts
2. Of Mice and Men
a. Skim-read the novel. Use bbcbitesize, revision guides from the library and any other revision websites to help. As you skim, remind yourself that you’re looking for how key themes are explored (prejudice, women, justice, poverty, the American Dream, loneliness and isolation...)
b. Create detailed plans for as many practice essays as you can, from the booklet you’ve been given; all these questions are also on the wiki (www.peters2012.pbworks.com)
If you finish, you should have a go at writing some of the essays you’ve planned
3. An Inspector Calls
Do exactly the same as you have been asked to do for Of Mice and Men – make sure you plan past essays!
B: English Language Retakes Students only (remember, this exam is not until after May half-term, so is lower priority)
1. Work back through the blue revision guide that you should have purchased in the Autumn term (make sure you have actually used it and read the advice – it’s referred to on the wiki under the ‘Christmas presents’ page)
2. Work back through the past papers provided by Mr P – submit an answer under timed conditions on A4 paper for the first week back.
3. Practise planning EVERY past section B question that is in your paper pack (and on the wiki)
