West Highland White Terrier Club of England Open Show

9th November 2013

I thank the Committee for the invitation to judge this show, their hospitality on the day and the superb lunch, all of which made the day very enjoyable.

The entry was high in numbers unfortunately there were many absentees but nevertheless I was very pleased with my winners who I felt could well hold their own in any competition.

Minor Puppy Dog 3 (1 abs)

1st Clements & Judge-Ford, Bocans Blade. Raw puppy, well up to size. Good head and expression. Excellent coat texture. A picture stacked. Tailset could be a little higher which would complete the picture on the move. Moved with confidence and drive.

2nd Noyce, Maxula Power of Dreams. Smaller type than 1. Strong rear end. Good shoulder placement. Very happy mover who kept his topline on the move. Lovely head and expression. Good coat. Well presented.

Puppy Dog 3 (1 abs)

1st Coley, Kingsview Warwick . Mature 11 month puppy who I am sure with maturity will go far. Excellent coat texture. Well presented. Good head and expression with correct bite. Good shoulder placement, short coupled. Moved with confidence when settled and kept his topline and excellent tail set on the move. Best Puppy Dog.

2nd Bartley, Davot Chief Whip Atelib. 11 month old stocky puppy. Very nice type who could benefit from carrying a little less weight. I thought a bit heavy across the front and shoulders today. Deep rib, short coupled, strong well muscled puppy. Excellent coat texture and presentation. Showed very well.

Junior Dog 2

1st Pearson, Winoski Man Friday. Very nice type I really liked this young dog. Lovely head and expression. Good layback of shoulder, level topline, which he kept on the move. Strong well muscled and well angulated back end. Moved with confidence and drive.

2nd Purchon, Lindenka Frazer. Another super young dog. Super hard white coat. Lovely head and expression with good bite. Good shoulder placement, short coupled, tail on top. I felt he did not quite have the strong rear end of the winner and did not quite move with the same reach and drive hence 2nd place today, but a very promising young man who I am sure will do well.

Graduate Dog 6 (5 abs)

1st Claridge, Hamish Ivory at Sunniwhite. 5 year old strong male. Nice head and expression. Short coupled. Well muscled rear end. Moved with confidence.

Mid Limit Dog 7 (3 abs)

The best class of the day full with quality dogs. 1st Storey, Nossimp Written in the Stars. A strong dog with good bone, super head and expression. Broad muzzle and excellent bite. Good reach of neck leading to well laid shoulders and good depth of rib. Short coupled with strong rear. Moved with confidence doing everything asked of him by his handler. A quality dog who should do very well. If I am being critical his skirt was too long and brushing the floor with no daylight at all under the dog, a little shorter and it would complete the picture.

Reserve Best Dog and Reserve Best in Show.

2nd Thomson, Ashgate US Apollo. Very nice type. Loved his strong back end. Looked a picture on the move, moving with real reach and drive, did not always want to cooperate when being stacked. Good head and expression, wide muzzle with correct bite. Very short coupled with a deep chest.

3rd Purchon, Lindenka Donovan.

Open Dog 2 (1 abs)

1st Noyce, Maxula Name of the Game. Stood alone, but a very worthy winner, this dog I am sure could hold his own in any competition. Super type with a super harsh white jacket and excellent presentation. Lovely head and expression with wide muzzle and correct bite. Deep chest, good level topline, tail on top. Moved with real purpose. For me this dog oozed quality and I was pleased to award him Best Dog and Best in Show.

Veteran Dog or Bitch 2 (2 abs)

Minor Puppy Bitch 2 (1 abs)

1st Lancaster, Clanestar Careless Chimes. A lovely feminine six month old puppy. Lovely head and expression with good bite. Good shoulder placement, lovely type and shape. Obviously still very raw but with time I am sure she will blossom.

Puppy Bitch 3 (2 abs)

1st Carlin & Gillott, Lizandycris Talula. Lovely compact puppy, super head and expression, good broad muzzle, correct bite. Well laid shoulders into short back, strong hindquarters, deep chest, super short tail bang on top. Looked a picture stacked and on the move. Showed with confidence. Best Puppy Bitch and Best Puppy in Show.

1st Hunt, Kellethrigg Lucky Charm. Very nice type. Well presented with harsh white jacket. Short coupled. Nice head and expression. Moved and showed well.
