DUCK AND TURN
1Without letting go of hands, M "appel" (quick hard stamp) on both feet,
knees bent, and duck straight down (do NOT back out). W starts moving CCW towards center of circle.
2-12As soon as W's hands pass over M's head, M stands up and couple rotates
12 steps CCW in place, pulling away from each other with crossed high handhold. M should end up on inside of circle on counts 1 & 8, W inside on counts 4 & 12.
13-16Without letting go of hands, raise hands over W's head. W does a ¾ CCW
turn in place with four steps to end up facing LOD. M continues to walk in CCW circle around W to end up on inside of circle facing LOD. Lower joined M's right and W's left onto W's right shoulder. Extend other joined hands in front as in MEN WRAPPED above.
WOMEN WRAPPED
1-12Couple walks LOD.
13-16M releases W's right (his left) and with his right starts the W into a full
CW turn to face LOD, as he lets go and turns ¼ CCW to face center
SHUHPLATTL
NOTE: At this sequence, the original dance notes say that the men do hand claps in any desired rhythm (free style) as women, with hands on hips, repeat step right and swing left foot across right, repeat to left, and then alternate right and left for a total of eight times. The Shuhplattler sequence below was taught by the Rathkamp German Dancers at the Deutscher Volkstanz Lehrgang 1 held in Houston in April of 1990. The plattl is actually from "Bankltanz" (Bench Dance) as performed by the Enzian Volkstanzgruppe of Newark, Delaware and taught to Erich Wolz. Because of music, the sequence has been modified to correspond to the music. Also, it has been modified to allow the women more to do rather than doing such a simple step the entire clap sequence.

NOTE: The term “Boarischer”, which is the Bavarian dialect for “Bavarian” is NOT the name of this dance. A Boarischer is a type of dance with a certain rhythm and pattern- such as Rheinländer.
