MAJOR FUNCTION/PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Early Childhood Program Coordinator provides direction, leadership and coordination of Early Childhood training and technical support for child care providers in a twelve county region that includes three Native American Indian Reservations in south central South Dakota. The position is based in Pierre and requires regular travel throughout the region. The purpose of the program is to promote high quality child care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Promotes the services offered by ECE to parents, child care providers, early childhood professionals and business and community leaders.
- Serves as a public relations person on behalf of ECE by demonstrating professional conduct during phone, email and personal contacts.
- Cultivates relationships with businesses, agencies and community leaders to promote ECE services and high quality child care in the region.
- Offers support and technical assistance to individuals and groups who may benefit from the services offered by ECE.
- Markets program by designing, publishing and distributing newsletters, email correspondence and brochures.
- Maintains ECE website and promotes the program through social media and online methods.
- Informs members of the ECE team in a timely manner in the event of potential opportunities, problems or concerns.
2. Coordinates enrichment training and serves as an Early Childhood Instructor
- Develops and coordinates the enrichment training schedule with instructors and prepares and distributes the training calendar.
- Provides enrichment trainings both online and in person.
- Conducts Environment Rating Scales and ITERS/FDCERS preliminary and post observations.
- Provides technical assistance to child care providers and parents through telephone contacts, site visits and other means.
- Maintains class enrollment lists, student payment records, training records, and class evaluations; prepares and distributes training certificates.
- Maintains supply and equipment inventory and coordinates all purchases.
- Ensures routine maintenance is performed on company vehicle.
3. Promotes child passenger safety in the region
- Tracks child safety seat inventory for the region.
- Distributes child safety seats in the Pierre area; loads/unloads seats to be stored or transferred and delivers seats to community partners as needed.
- Completes monthly reports regarding car seat information and prepares car seat orders.
4. Manages the Reach Out and Read project
- Maintains appropriate inventory of children’s books and program records including bi-annual progress reports.
- Coordinates book distribution through area partners throughout the region.
- Assists new clinics with application process and consults with community partners to ensure program quality.
5. Serves as a contributing member of the ECE team.
- Coordinates use of qualified outside trainers and supervises staff to maintain a quality program.
- Works in partnership with other team members to maintain a professional work climate and positive public image of ECE.
- Coordinates effectively with other team members to successfully accomplish program goals and objectives.
- Coordinates professional development of ECE team and attends appropriate online and in-person workshops for professional development.
- Participates in one-on-one and team meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood, Child Development, Early Elementary Education or a related field; experience working in a child care business desired.
Prerequisites for the job: Valid driver’s license, knowledge of child development and child care business, flexibility in work hours, proficiency with Microsoft Office software. Must pass background check.
Personal Characteristics: Commitment to ongoing professional development, ability to implement training based on knowledge of adult learning styles, effective oral and written communication skills, effective organizational and planning skills, ability to maintain accurate records.
COMPENSATION:
Wage starts at $15 per hour or higher depending on qualifications. This is a full-time, permanent position with company paid retirement, health/life/dental insurance, and vacation/sick leave benefits.
