Important Dates and Information

August 7, Tuesday: General Information MeetingAfter school, ROOM 242

*August 14: TRY OUTS after School 3:30 PM West Mobile Swim Club

YOU MUST HAVE A PHYSICAL TO TRY OUT

ALL PAPERWORK** (MINUS FEES) ARE DUE UPON TRYOUT

  • Girls Must Wear Swim Cap, 1 Piece Swim Suit
  • Boys Swim Trunk, NO AFTCO’s
  • All Bring Goggles
  • Skills Assessed:50 meter swim for time, 200 Free, Dive off Starting Blocks, Turning at the wall. Swim Strokes
  • 2017 Members do not need to try out.

August 6: Team Meeting/Class: Returning team. Schedule changes will be made by Aug. 17 (or ASAP) Team Announced 15.

August 17: FIRST DAY IN THE POOL! ALL PAPERWORK FOR ALL TEAM MEMBERS MUST BE COMPLETE IN ORDER GET IN POOL!!!

August 18 (Saturday): 11 AM. Swim suit fitting at Swim and Tri, 3607 Old Shell Road

August 21: Parent Meeting: 5:30 PM Baker Cafeteria

  • *Most of the paperwork (not physicals) will now be completed using DRAGONFLY. See instructions for use. PARENT AND ATHLETES MUST HAVE THEIR OWN ACCOUNTS.

PRACTICE GEAR: YOU MUST WEAR A PRACTICE SWIM SUIT, NO 2 PIECE OR BOARD SHORTS. PRACTICE SUITS CAN BE PURCHASED AT SWIM AND TRI. HAVE AT LEAST 2 PAIR OF GOGGLES, SWIM BOUY, AND GIRLS SHOULD WEAR A SWIM CAP TO PRACTICE. DRAG SHORTS ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED AND ARE AVAILABLE AT SWIM AND TRI. FLIPPERS ARE OPTIONAL, BUT ENCOURAGED FOR SOME WORKOUTS.

IF YOU ARE A MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT AND DID NOT PARTICIPATE IN THE SWIM PROGRAM LAST YEAR, YOU WILL NEED TO BE EVALUTED. PLEASE BE SURE TO ATTEND THE TRYOUT/EVALATION LISTED

Rules AND Expectations for Participation

  1. Attendance to Meets and Practices are mandatory.
  2. Practice Attendance: Swimmers will dress for practice (swim or dryland) in Baker Gym locker rooms, attendance will be taken in gym lobby before departure to pool. Attendance will be taken again at pool. Swimmers ARE not to be in pool before coach is on deck. Once coach is on deck, swimmers should be in pool. ANY HORSE PLAY THAT THE COACH DEEMS UNACCEPTALBE AND DANGEROUS TO THE SAFETY OF SWIMMERS MAY RESULT IN SUSPENSION OR DISMISSAL FROM TEAM.

NOTE REGARDING USE OF PROVIDENCE!!!! BATHROOM USE IS TO BE KEPT TO A MINIMUM. NO CHANGING IN BATHROOMS BEFORE OR AFTER PRACTICE, SORRY.

  1. Meet Attendance: There are only 8-10 meets per season, swimmers must commit to these meets and make arrangements to attend them. This is TEAM sport and every participant could earn points for the TEAM. Illness is understandable, but communication is KEY. Swimmers are also expected to stay for the entire meet to support fellow team mates!!!
  2. SWIM GRADES ARE BASED ON ATTENDANCE AND PRACTICE PARTICIPATION!!!!
  3. ATTENDANCE IS TAKEN DAILY!!!!!!
  4. ATTENDANCE AT POOL BUT NOT SWIMMING IS NOTED! Forgetting you suit is not an excuse BRING AN EXTRA!!!!!

  2. Retract is not an excused absence from swim practice. Think before you act. Just like class, swimmers will receive a 0 in the grade book. Excessive absences may result in suspension or dismissal from team, and may lose credit.
  3. THINK BEFORE YOU ACT!!!! Suspension from school are unexcused absences from practice and will result in 0’s in gradebook. Excessive absences may result in suspension or dismissal from team.
