Redwood County 4-H Federation Officer Application
We have a new format this year. Please read the directions below and do not hesitate to ask questions. This is not meant to be intimidating. This application process is designed to be a working tool for you to use as you progress through high school and begin to get ready to pursue job experiences, scholarships, and/or higher education.
How To Apply:
(1) Application
o Complete the fill in the blank cover letter and resume’ provided below.
o Already have a cover letter and/or resume’? Great! Use that one.
o Young applicants may not have information to put into all resume’ topic area and that is OK! Some sections may be left blank others may have one item. It is OK!
(2) Active 4-H Enrollment is required. This opens 9/16/2016 in mn.4Honline.com
(3) Please complete the Redwood County Program Guideline signed by yourself and a parent/guardian (see below)
(4) Email or mail cover letter, resume’, and program guideline to Redwood County 4-H, PO Box 130, 403 South Mill Street, Redwood Falls, Mn 56283 or bring to the Federation Meeting on October 3, 2016 6 pm at the Wabasso High School. Pizza will be served.
Helpful Hints:
Cover Letter:
o The purpose of a cover letter is to tell the reader why your application should be considered and provide information to the reader about you that they may miss in the resume’
o Use appropriate grammar and punctuation,
o Cover letters are short, descriptive, and concise
o Your cover letter should include what you are applying for and how your experience will benefit the program. Examples: leadership opportunities, service learning projects etc.. Fill in the blank format is below. Feel free to edit it as you wish! Again if you have one already please use that one – no need to duplicate efforts!
Resume’:
o Your resume’ should include pertinent information and be used to build a resource for your future use.
o Include work experience, volunteer experience, leadership experience, education, special accomplishments, and other interests. Be specific and include dates.
o Include each section on your resume’ even if you do not have anything to put in it yet. Again this is a work in progress and each year you will be updating this information.
o Leave a section blank if you have nothing to add. This is a work in progress and blank spaces are expected and OK!
o Resume’ should be one page. Your resume’ will be unique to you.
o If you already have a resume’ please use that one. No need to duplicate efforts.

Redwood County 4-H Federation Officer Guideline
Why Become a 4-H Federation Officer:
· Become a voice in Redwood County 4-H and lead our program into the future!
· Cultivate leadership communication, teamwork, and decision making skills
· Strengthen and promote 4-H in Redwood County.
Program Term:
· Application opens September – October for people grades 7-13
· Program runs October – September
· Selection process is open for all youth who agree to program expectations and guidelines.
· Federation Officer Candidates must attend the October Meeting in person to be considered an eligible candidate
· Voting members include attendee’s grades 7+ and adults in attendance of the meeting.
· Voting is held in October during the Annual Federation Meeting. Induction to your office is in November during the Awards Ceremony.
Program Expectations and Guidelines:
· Attendance:
o Attendance at Federation Meetings held October, November, January, March, and May
o Attend 3 of 5 Advisory Board Meetings
o Attendance goal is 70% of meetings and events.
o Federation Officers are responsible for their own transportation to meetings and events.
o Federation Officers are responsible for maintaining communication with program leaders including email messaging and/or phone calls as needed.
· 4-H Code of Conduct: will be followed.
· Meetings:
o Meetings are scheduled by current Redwood County 4-H Bylaws.
o Meetings or an event (November and March Federation Meeting are held in conjunction with Awards Banquet and Family Fun Day)
o Inability to attend a meeting/event: Call the person in charge of the scheduled event to notify that person you are not able to come.
o You must find someone to take your place if unable to attend a Federation Meeting.
· “Uniform”:
o Wear a 4-H t-shirt at 4-H sponsored events.
· 4-H Participation:
o Federation Officers are expected to participate in local club activities
o Must exhibit at least one project at Redwood County Fair
o Will assist with Redwood County Fair. Those who are able to take on leadership roles during county events are encouraged to do so.
o You must be an enrolled 4-H member
