Follow the link at the Discovery Student page to:

Using the sidebar at the right, log in to an existing account or, if you do not already have an account, you will need to create one. When setting up the account you will first be asked for the name of the subscribed institution you are affiliated with. Choose Emory University unless you will be doing your project at another institution; in that case they may want you to complete your training through their institution as they may have different established requirements. If you will be doing your research at the VA, choose VA Atlanta (Decatur).

Continue through the enrollment steps supplying the requested information. Under the final enrollment step you will be asked to select the research activity that applies to you. Choose “I am engaged in or supervise human subjects research….” Click Next

You will then be asked to choose the coursework that best applies to your research activities. Choose “I need to complete coursework in human subjects protection for biomedical investigators”. Click Next.

You will then be asked if you are required to take a course on Good Clinical Practices. This is for Research Coordinators for Clinical Trials as defined by the FDA. It should be extremely rare that a Discovery student needs this. Choose No and Click Next.

Again select No that you do not need Clinical Research Coordinator training. Click Next.

You will now be asked whether you are required to take a Responsible Conduct of Research course and to choose the appropriate track. All Discovery students must complete the Human Subjects Research Track course.

Once you click on Finalize Registration you will see the list of the Emory University Courses you need to complete. All Discovery students should have two courses: Group 1. Biomedical Focus and Human Subject Research Track (RCR). Each of these courses has multiple modules, with a short quiz at the end of each. It should take apporoximately 4-5 hours to complete all of your training.

If you are using animals in your research, depending on IACUC requirements, you may also need to complete the Animal Research Track (RCR). Check this with your mentor and the IACUC web site.

If you later need to add an additional course for some reason, log in and you will see the same list of your current courses. Look down the screen under My Learner Tools for Emory University and select “Add a Course”. You will go through the same process and can select any course you did not originally add.

When you have completed your required courses and received your score, on the main menu under Completion Report click on share. Click on the link under To Share the Completion Report for this course. A copy of the report will appear on the computer screen. Save this as a pdf file naming it: CITI Biomedical report or CITI RCR report for the appropriate course.

You can then go to your OASIS Discovery page and upload your two Completion Reports. This must be completed by 1 week before you start Discovery and will take care of your CITI training requirement.

While you are there, please take a few minutes to be sure the information on your Discovery page is up to date – mentor, project, planned dates for Discovery, etc.
