Input Supply Agreement template
Guidance: It is recommended that this template is used to form the agreement between the composting operator and suppliers of grass clippings, crop residues and other plant materials from professionally managed lawns, landscaped areas, or agricultural land that may have been treated with herbicides containing active ingredients clopyralid and picloram (e.g. landscapers, grounds maintenance and sports turf professionals, or farmers).
REAL strongly recommend the use of this template agreement, especially when composted materials are destined for use in sensitive applications (e.g. growth of plants in containers or under protective cover - e.g. polytunnels, sensitive crops such as peas, beans, potatoes, sugarbeet, carrots, tomatoes, lettuce and spinach).

Supply Terms and conditions
The supplier of the waste is aware of the potential risks of herbicides residues entering commercial composting. Such risks are described in detail in WRAP report An investigation of clopyralid and aminopyralid in commercial composting systems[1]. Renewable Energy Assurance Ltd.’s guidelines on how to mitigate such risks based on the WRAP report can be found at:
http://www.organics- recycling.org.uk/page.php?article=1872&name=Herbicide+products.
A checklist of products containing clopyralid, and picloram can be downloaded from here: http://www.organics- recycling.org.uk/page.php?article=1872&name=Herbicide+products. However, the most up to date information about products containing these compounds can be found by visiting the Chemicals Regulation Directorate’s webpage https://secure.pesticides.gov.uk/pestreg/ProdSearch.asp and carrying out a search by typing ‘clopyralid’ or ‘picloram’ in the ‘active’ ingredient box.
Where plant clippings are known to have been treated with herbicides containing clopyralid or picloram, those herbicides shall have been used according to the products labels[2]. In other words, input materials that have been treated with herbicides containing active ingredients clopyralid and picloram shall not be delivered to this composting site.
If the supplier of the input materials is in any doubt, then the composting operator shall be informed.
Examples of herbicides containing clopyralid that are approved for use are: Blaster, Charter, Esteem, Greenor and Interfix. Examples of herbicide containing picloram that are approved for use are: Altadox HI, Tordon 22K.
By signing this agreement the supplier agrees to the Supply terms and conditions specified above. The responsibility for the quality control of the waste supplied remains with the supplier. The plant operator reserves the right to reject any load or part load that fails to meet the agreed criteria. The supplier must inform the plant operator of any significant change in the quality of the input material, affecting the fitness for purpose, before delivery.
