CKCSecurity Monitor Staff Fall 2008Expectations
General:
- Timeliness: Being on time is very important. During the week the SM on duty from 5-9 pm is responsible for opening the SM booth. On weekends and on holidays, the RA is responsible for letting in the SM. AT ALL TIMES THE SM IS EXPECTED TO ARRIVE 5 MINUTES PRIOR TO THEIR SCHEDULED SHIFT and the SCHEDULING MEETINGS. ANYTHING AFTER IS LATE. Even one tardy may result in disciplinary action.
- Attending SM meetings: SM monthly meetings are mandatory.SMs are paid for their attendance therefore SMs are expected to be present the entire length of the meeting.
- Holiday Shifts: SMs are expected to fulfill the required “holiday” shifts as designated by the SC.
- Dependability: SMs will work shifts they sign up for, or find a replacement. IT IS THE SM’s RESPONSIBILITY TO FIND A REPLACEMENT. After the SM has found a replacement, the SM is to notify the SC of the switch by email. Missed shifts (and missed SM meetings) will result in disciplinary action for the SM.
- Communication: SMs will always let the SC know at least 24 hours in advance by email of any shift changes. SC should receive communication between the SM giving up the shift and the SM taking the shift in the form of one forwarded email from the SM giving up the shift—illustrating a request for cover and a definitive reply taking the shift.
- SM Manual: SMs are to read the SM manual provided in the booth. SMs will be held accountable for the material and are responsible for getting a signed confirmation page at the back of the manual to the SC.
- Feedback: SMs will always notify the SC with any job related problems or questions. Example 1: If the RA has not checked in with the SM within 15 minutes of the beginning of the shift (by 5:15 pm or 10:15 pm), the SM is to call the SC’s room phone and leave a message informing the SC or email.
In the Booth:
- Personnel: There is no non-staff permitted inside the booth. The only person allowed inside the booth is the SM on duty.
- Equipment: SM’s will ensure that all equipment is checked out and in (by initialing) by only residents of the hall of the area.
- Customer Service: SMs will be professional. SMs will serve the residents and guests appropriately. Your job comes first when you are on duty. Please smile and be friendly.
- Information: The SMs will make residents aware of any helpful information in the booth or on the bulletin board, such as bus schedules, maps, bulletins and of course safety resources.
- Solicitations: SMs are not required to solicit for outside groups or hall staff.
- Awareness: SMs will be aware of activities within the lobby and main lounge. SMs will assist in notifying the RA on duty of any policy violations that they may come in contact with or any resident issues that arise, (i.e. lockouts). SMs will remain attentive at all times. No headphones allowed.
- Internet: If the SM on duty has the internet and it is not affecting his/her job performance, so be it. (As usual, impedance of job performance will result in appropriate follow-up.) If the SM does not receive access, it is not a responsibility of the hall, residential computing, or the SC to provide access.
- Paperwork: SM’s will fill out all log information to ensure that they are recording hours and activity properly.
- Breaks: Breaks will be given to the SM according to RA’s availability and SM’s request. This is a negotiation, not a dictation. This will be an understanding between the SM and RA on Duty. Breaks are not allowed in the first hour or in the last hour. Breaks are 15 minutes ONLY.
- Telephone: The booth telephone will be used for emergency purposes only and correspondence with Hall Staff. Residents and guests are not to use SM booth telephones. Cell phone conversations are to be kept to an absolute minimum.
- Professionalism: The SM is expected to maintain professionalism at all times. This includes elements of customer service, booth presentation, and appropriate telephone protocol. FOR EXAMPLE, “CKC SM booth, Andrew speaking.”
- Tidiness: SMs will keep friends/possessions out of the way and maintain approachability to residents. SMs will keep the booth neat. They will clean up after themselves before they leave.
- Food:SMs will throw away food outside of the SM booth.
I have read the above statements. I understand I will be held accountable for the expectations above. I understand that in accepting the SM position I am agreeing to be held accountable for the expectations above.
