GRANTS FOR LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT AND ADVANCES IN AVICULTURE
Institutional Letter of Commitment
One of the AZA’s Avian Scientific Advisory Group goals is to recruit and build capacity in the next generation of zoo bird curators and leaders in advancing zoo aviculture. These activities are vital to the continuity and survival of zoo avian programs. To this end, ASAG offers small grants to bird keepers and bird husbandry supervisors to support travel to ASAG sponsored workshops at the AZA mid-year meeting for the purpose of presenting papers on advancements in the care, welfare, and reproduction of avian species in zoos and/or field conservation projects in which the applicant has played a lead role. It is envisioned that grant recipients will become more familiar with ASAG purposes and goals, begin to establish a network of colleagues and mentors, and become active participating members of the group. ASAG is proud to support our emerging leaders and hopes that as a director of an AZA institution, you will also support this endeavor.
The ______(institution name) understands the purpose and intent of this grant program and agrees to support the applicant (applicant name) ______by ensuring he/she can attend the ASAG workshop if the grant is awarded. Grants will cover up to $1200 of travel costs and the institution or applicant is responsible for any costs in excess of the grant amount. An invoice is required for a cash advance; the grant monies will be sent to the institution’s director or their designate for disbursement. In the event that the funds are not used as intended or receipts not tendered as required, the institution agrees to reimburse the Avian Scientific Advisory Group for these amounts. If payment on the grant award is made by reimbursement of documented expenses, such checks will be issued to the party which incurred the expenses.
