Food Growing Process

The following is the process for groups who wish to grow food produce on their estate.

The Process

-Food growing on communal land on estates needs to be conducted in consultation with your TRA.

-5 or more residents need to agree to be part of the process.

-Once this agreement has been sort among the growing participants. The growing request needs to go to the lead officer at Hackney Homes via your TRA to process (see below for contact details).

-Should you not have a TRA on your estate then a group of 5 or more residents can come together and agree to be part of the growing group.

-Once the members have been assembled, the request should be posted or emailed. The request should outline

  • The name of the growing group
  • The 5 names and contact telephone numbers of group members
  • State the lead person
  • A brief description of where on the estate the growing is propose
  • What you propose to grow

-Once this information has been received, the project leader will be contacted.

-A mutually convenient time will be arranged for a Grounds Maintenance officer to check and agree the area of land that you would like to use for growing food.

-Once the area of land has been agreed, a signed agreement will be given to the growing group which outlines that the members of the group will be responsible for the upkeep of the land designated for food growing.

-The agreement needs to be signed dated and posted to the Hackney Homes lead officer.

-A letter will be posted to the group advising that they have been successful in there application to grow food produce on estate land.

-From this time on the growing group will be able to commence with food growing.

In order to assist and facilitate continued food growing, information regarding organisations which provide funding for food growing groups will be forwarded to growing groups.
