United Way Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) / AARP Tax Aide

Seeking volunteers to serve as tax preparers and intake specialists for 2017 tax year. Training begins in December.

Time commitment: 5 to 30 hours of training during December and January and 4 hours per week on site during the tax season from February through mid-April.

Looking for 4 volunteers to help paint the lockers in our sheltered workshop. The clients would like to paint a design on the lockers so someone with an artistic background would be ideal. Also leadership skills are encouraged.

Time Commitment: 8 hours total either in one day or spread out over several days.

America and Roby Anderson Center

4 Volunteers needed to staff the America and Roby and Anderson Center – 421 McClure Road, Columbus, Indiana to greet people, take messages, and do light cleaning. Times and days are flexible with the volunteer’s schedule.

Love Chapel – Brighter Day Housing Facility

Unlimited volunteers needed to supervise residents staying at the facility. Staff will be accompanying volunteers as well.

Hours: 24/7 variety of times - 4 hour shifts.

Time commitment: 4 hours per month minimum

Your Local American Red Cross

Volunteer client caseworkers needed - when clients experience a disaster of any kind, they need assistance to help get their feet back on the ground. Caseworkers meet with the clients after the disaster, at the client’s convenience to help them establish a recovery plan and to connect the clients with community resources. Skills required include excellent customer service and communication skills, ability to be empathetic with the clients, good writing skills; computer skills are a plus. Volunteers will be meeting with clients through their entire recovery process.

Volunteers 18 years and older are needed to help and will need to pass a background check.

Money STRONG Program

Volunteer Financial Coaches needed to help people meet their financial goals. The program offers free, confidential financial coaching to help individuals and families manage their money and improve their financial futures. Coaches work one-on-one with participants to define their personal financial goals and develop an action plan to achieve their goals. From paying rent, to increasing savings, to reaching a financial goal, the Financial Coach is there to help identify resources, offer support and encouragement that help participants realize success.

Bartholomew County Triad

Bartholomew County Triad is a partnership between local law enforcement, older adults, and community groups. Currently, the Triad is working to identify needs of older adults in the community through a community needs assessment. We are in need of 2-3 volunteers to help distribute the assessment throughout the community.

United Way 2-1-1-Holiday Helpline Registration

Answer phones and enter information into the database to register local children and families for gift/food assistance. New volunteers to Holiday Assistance will need to arrive half hour early for training on the programs we register and on the holiday database.

Foundation for Youth – Princess Ball

Travel Around the World to the eleventh annual Princess Ball! Volunteers are needed to set up, check in, and supervising the photo area, craft area and food tables. After the event volunteers will be needed to help tear down. Help make this a night to remember!

World AIDS Day

The Granny Connection is deeply dedicated to providing support, advocacy and funding to grandmothers who are raising children orphaned by AIDS. Help us raise awareness in preparation of this important event day by knitting red scarves today. Please put the finished scarves in the designated box at Mill Race Center. The scarves will be tied around town on event day then available to the public to afterwards to those who need them!

Our primary activity is to meet with and counsel start up and ongoing small businesses in one hour, face-to-face, confidential, free sessions with our Clients.

National Youth Advocate Program (NYAP)

Is in need of several volunteers over the age of 21 to provide child care during foster parent support groups. These groups meet in the evening twice a month on varying days. Volunteers must be able to pass background checks and may be asked to assist in events for foster families and youth throughout the year such as the NYAP Fall Festival (Oct), Christmas Party (Dec), and Foster Appreciation Dinner (held in May). Hours: Varies, usually 5:30pm – 7:30pm or 6:00pm – 8:00pm

We are looking for volunteers who are interested in working with youth. We have youth programs on Wednesday evenings from 5pm-7pm. We are looking for volunteers who can teach musical instruments or singing. Also for volunteers who would like to work with the youth on earning badges. Volunteers will need to go through a Safe From Harm training before working with the youth.

Activities (games, crafts, reading)/ visiting with the senior residents who are mostly homebound due to medical issues.

Youth groups can make cards throughout the year for homebound residents.

Once a month assisting residents with mobility issues with transportation to food pantries. They have difficulty navigating the city bus w/ their food pantry items and have had to turn down food because they can’t carry and have run out of food by end of the month.

Needs volunteers for animal feeding, cleaning and other tasks. Also sometimes need foster homes for special needs animals and those recovering from injury.

We are looking for caring volunteers to help us “make every moment count” for our patients and families.
