Blackhorse Avenue – Section 2, Road Improvement Scheme

Interim PR Circular Update No. 1 – August 2016

Dear Resident(s),

On behalf of Main Contractor, Actavo (Ireland) Ltd.[formerly known as Sierra Communications Ltd.], and on behalf of Employer, Dublin City Council, I would like to share with you a courtesy update on the progress of the roadworks on Blackhorse Avenue over the past month and a half.

Progress

Since our last update, WE had to-date:-

…at Workfront No. 1 (Cabra Gate to Lyndon Gate – south side of road)

(i)Constructed most of the blockwork for the new boundary wall fronting the area known as the Poor Man’s Well;

(ii)Prepared the ground immediately fronting same in preparation for the construction of a new cast-in-place concrete kerb;

…and at Workfront No. 2 (Lyndon Gate to entrance to Park Crescent Apartments – south side)

(i)Completed the removal the old bund wall at the back of path (opposite Nephin Road junction)

(ii)Commenced reconstructed of same section of wall, above ground, at back of path (opposite Nephin Road junction)

(iii)Completed the excavation of the footpath over same extent;

(iv)Completed the excavation of the carriageway over half of same extent, and

(v)Made progress in reinstating the carriageway over half of same extent.

(vi)We have also laid a new section of storm water sewer over the same plan extent and including new gully pots, gully connections, and manholes.

Meanwhile:

(a)Works at this Workfront are admitably, wellbehindtarget at present! This is principally due to following, namely:

(i)Two unchartered high voltage ESB cables were discovered in the carriageway;

(ii)The ESB insisted (for safety reasons) no work adjacent these cables, and that the cables be relocated into the south side footpath;

(iii)This work took an unexpected additional two weeks to undertake;

(iv)Meanwhile, with the ESB cables obstructing the site, the Contractor could not use the large excavator, as planned, and instead was obliged to use the mini-digger which was very slow and inefficient;

(v)Finally, unexpectedly hard ground conditions were experienced which further slowed progress

And,

(b)If you should be experiencing any difficulty, in any way, consequent on these roadworks, you are cordially invited to directly contact my Site-based colleague, Aaron McMorrow, Site Engineer, contact details below.

Imminent Plans

The Contractor will now, over the coming two weeks, build a new kerb on the south side of the road along the length of the first two Workfronts [i.e. from Cabra Gate to just east of Nephin Road junction], rebuild the carriageway (including tarmac) on Workfront 2 (i.e. the area opposite Nephin Road junction), and thereafter, move onto Workfront 3, south side (i.e. roadway fronting Crescent Park House apartment buildings). Finally, following completion of Workfront 3, south side, the Contractor will then return to Workfront No. 1 [Cabra Gate to Lyndon Gate] north side. Meanwhile, of course, the Contractor will continue with stone-facing to the new wall fronting the area known as the Poor Man’s Well, footpath construction at Workfronts 1 and 2 south side, and likely commence boundary works at the Pallet Yard site (i.e. east of Park Crescent House, south side).
