Basic skills will be introduced progressively. Listening and speaking will be emphasized, with practice in conversation, question-answer drill, and simple sentence construction. Simple vocabulary dealing with home, school, work, clothing, and recreation is stressed. Students will be introduced to the concept of expressing time in different tenses. Aspects of culture will be introduced. A specific fee is not charged, but there will be costs involved for purchase of necessary supplemental materials.
HUMANITIES

Grades: 11, 12 All Year 1 Credit
This is an online course, taken as an independent study. Humanities is the study of art, music, drama, literature, religions, and social structure of civilizations from Europe and North America during ancient times to the present. There is an emphasis on literature, drama, and poetry. This course is taught 100% online through Moodle and therefore relies on the student’s willingness to assume responsibility for his/her learning. Students electing this course should be self-motivated by their own intellectual curiosity relative to the course content. The instructor will provide virtual office hours as needed. This course meets the general elective requirements towards graduation.
AP EUROPEAN HISTORY

Grades: 11, 12 All Year
Fee: $65.00 (to offset cost of AP Exam; see NOTE)
Note: 10th graders may take this course with teacher recommendation and principal approval. This course will introduce the most able and motivated students to college level study of European History. The course and optional Advanced Placement Exam, when successfully completed, may enable the student to receive college credit and/or proper placement in other college courses in history. The course will require extensive outside reading and writing. Themes to be studied include: Political and diplomatic history; intellectual and cultural history; social and economic history of Europe from the Renaissance to the present. NOTE: Students will be required to take the AP Exam in the spring with the district covering the test registration. Students receiving a 3, 4, or 5 on the exam will be reimbursed the $65 test fee. Please note that depending on enrollment figures, this course may be offered on-line. Summer reading and accompanying assignments may be required and students may need to purchase paperback books.
AP CALCULUS AB

All Year 1 credit (weighted)
Fee: $65.00 (to offset cost of AP Exam; see NOTE). Prerequisite: Recommendation of pre-calculus teacher. This course will cover topics in differentiation and integration, with applications in the field of physics. NOTE: Students will be required to take the AP Exam in the spring with the district covering the test registration. Students receiving a 3, 4, or 5 on the exam will be reimbursed the $65 test fee. A graphing calculator is required. *Please note that due to enrollment figures, this course may be offered on-line.

College Composition is an introduction to fundamental college level skills in academic reading and writing. Summary, analysis, synthesis and research documentation are emphasized as well as critical thinking. Students write papers in which they demonstrate their mastery of the above skills as well as their ability to write clearly, fluently and effectively using grammatical and mechanical conventions appropriately.
COLLEGE COMPOSITION II ENG 162

College Composition II is a writing course that continues the reading and writing skills introduced in English 161. English 162 includes strategies of argument and secondary research leading to a research paper. Completion of English 162 fulfills the requirements for “freshman composition.”
ACT/SAT TEST PREPARATION
Course is designed to assist students in preparing for the ACT tests. Classes meet Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for six sessions. The classes are offered on a quarterly basis throughout the school year.
