Performing at the Playhouse

By Kayley McDonnell, Class 3

On Tuesday 5th March, Class 3 and I took part in the North Somerset Dance Festival at the Playhouse, Weston-Super-Mare. The day started with rehearsals and performances at school…

Firstly, we changed into our costumes to put the finishing touches to our Hollywood and Samba dances. It took quite a while to finish our dances but we got there eventually. After that we performed for Reception, Key Stage One and Key Stage Two; they all clapped. Mrs. Storer said “THAT WAS AMAZING!”

We had an early lunch. After that we gathered up all our costumes and props and got on the coach.

As soon as we arrived at the Playhouse, we wandered into the auditorium and found our seats. After we found our seats, Mr. German told us the rules and he told us where the fire exits were. Following on, we watched all the schools do their dances, “THEY WERE ALL AMAZING!” We agreed.

Then we practised our Hollywood danceand our Samba dance. Then Mr. German showed us our dressing rooms; we hanged up our props and our costumes. Later on we walked back to the coach. Finally we arrived back at school and gathered our things to go home.

We had to go back to the playhouseat six o’clock. Firstly, we practised the finale. If you don’t know what a finale is, it’s where we all hold hands and take a bow. We only had to do it one time because we did it perfectly. Eventually Mums, Dads, Granny’s and Granddad’s started coming in.

When we started performing I was a bit nervous. We did our Hollywood dance first. We were brilliant! I don’t know what I was worrying about! The audience loved it. It was their favourite dance. We got a huge cheer.

Then we had to get changed quickly into our Samba costumes; then we could have a snack and a drink. I had an apple, chocolate bunny and a fruit-winder. In my dressing room it was me, Libby, Milly, Mia, Mazie and Sophie. You could bring a book or a game; I brought a book. Sophie brought in lots of books (she had to give her books to the boys because they didn’t bring any books or games with them).

Later on we went back on stage to perform our Samba dance. Louis and Libby introduced the Samba dance. Libby said “This is Samba dance from Brazil,”and Louis said it was choreographed by Aaron and Libby. Libby’s mum shouted “GO LIBBY!” It was really loud! We could all hear her and weall started laughing!

After we stopped laughing, the music started playing so we got into our places and performed our dance perfectly. We got another huge cheer.

We had to wait until the other schools finished and then it was the finale. Finally, our mums and dads came to collect us. I didn’t get home until gone nine because it took ages to get home. I was really tired that evening.

Miss Farnell and Aaron were very proud of us. They said it was brilliant and they thought we werebrilliant. I thought it was brilliant too.
