Director of Internships and Career Planning

Pfeiffer University seeks to fill the position of Director of Internships and Career Development, to prepare students for future career success through training in resume preparation, interviewing skills, mentoring and internship opportunities.

Duties and Responsibilities

Set, articulate and implement the vision for Career Development and Internships at Pfeiffer University, evaluate and assess effectiveness of programs and services. Set and monitor goals, revising plans to meet the needs of current students, and availability of services.

Career Planning

*Provide career advising, career assessments, resume/cover letter assistance, graduate school preparation, mock interviews, job search assistance through individual advising appointments with current students and alumni.

*Collaborate with faculty and other offices on campus to create career development programs (i.e., International, Academic Advising, Residence Life, Cultural Affairs and Service Learning);

*Manage career development events: Career Fairs, networking opportunities, mock interviews, workshop series (dress for success, interviewing etiquette events), etc.;

*Collect data for analysis, evaluation, and program improvement

*Update and maintain the Career Services web site

*Consult with employers regarding optimal marketing strategies to connect students to internships and jobs and to collaborate on events and workshops.

*Present relevant career development topics in classroom and informal settings;

*Participate in career development related committee work as assigned;

*Remain current on job market trends and new information relevant to career services in higher education;

*Seek out professional development opportunities for students.

Internships

*Develop and maintain quality internship sites through community outreach and networking;

*Plan and implement “internship education” programs for students, parents, faculty and staff;

*Advise students in individual appointments regarding internship options;

*Maintain records and track statistics of students participating in internships;

*Work closely with faculty to recruit students, and identify internship opportunities;

*Prepare an annual assessment report in response to the projections in the Quality Enhancement Plan for SACS accreditation.

Qualifications

Requires a Master's degree in Counseling, College Student Personnel, or other relevant field and one to two years of professional experience providing career counseling services to college students required. Experience in managing and internship program preferred. Also preferred is familiarity with corporate and non-profit organizations; an understanding of experiential education and academic/career advising; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
