Instructions – Dream Keeper Scholarship

The Hannah Project is pleased to announce the FY 2017- 18 Dream Keeper Scholarship Award for graduating seniors. Application to this award is by invitation only.

The Dream Keeper Scholarship Program was established in 2008 by the Hannah Project to support the post secondary educational goals of Hannah Project affiliated students. It reflects our intention not only to promote the graduation success rate of Marin City and other African American students enrolled full-time in two-year or four-year colleges and universities, but our desire to help develop a cadre of young people who have as a value, the desire to give back to their community and other minority students . This is a competitive award program that requires award recipients to agree to allow the Hannah Project to monitor their progress toward graduation and to commit to providing 10 or more service hours annually to our program throughout their college careers.

Our commitment to help youth completes their dream of a college education. Likewise, we hope that you will share our values by seriously being committed to giving back to others through the fulfillment of our Hannah service requirement. Recipients may reapply for scholarship renewals for future awards if they remain in good standing. To be eligible to receive a Dream Keeper Award, you must be:

  1. A graduating high school senior with a minimum grade point average of 2.2 or a current college student with a gpa of 2.5 or higher and 45 or more units that will transfer to a four year institution
  2. Have proof of enrollment in a 2 year or 4year post secondary institution as a fulltime student for the Fall 2013 semester.
  3. Be enrolled in the Hannah Project and participated in one or more Hannah Project programs.
  4. If you are not enrolled in the Hannah Project you must participate in a pre-interview before your scholarship application will be considered.

All applicants who satisfy the eligibility requirements (as stated above) are encouraged to apply.

Awards will range between $1,500 - $4,000. Non Hannah Project applicants ($1,000- 2,500)

Selection Criteria: The primary selection criteria are: Demonstrated intent to earn a baccalaureate degree; maintenance of a 2.5 or higher GPA; financial need; future goals, and service commitment.

Other considerations include: Financial need, leadership, work history, and other activities such as exemplary participation in athletics, community service, or the arts).

In addition to the service requirement, recipients are also required to attend a Graduate Recognition Ceremony to be held in May- date to be determined... The best of luck to you.

Application Instructions

  1. DEADLINE for scholarship applications is May 1st.
  2. All requirements must be met and all information must be completed in order for the application to be considered.
  3. Please attach the following:
  4. a copy of your 2016 Student Aid Report.
  5. A copy of your estimated family contribution (EFC) as indicated by the FASFA
  6. An copy of your most recent official high school or college transcript
  7. Retain a copy of the completed application for your files.
  8. As part of the selection process, applicants will be required to participate in the Dreamkeeper interview process. Interviews will be scheduled in April. No exceptions will be allowed unless you have requested and received written approval from the Hannah Project for alternative applicant review arrangements.
  9. Scholarship award decisions will be announced on or before May 19th.
  10. Scholarship awards will be distributed by August 15- September 15, 2017.
  11. Proof of enrollment must be received before scholarships will be disbursed.
  12. Scholarship checks will be made directly to your college or university.
