PREPARATION COURSE
The Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) is offering the OralExam for Certified Court Interpreterson October 10 and 11, 2015 at Bellevue College.To help candidates prepare for the exam, the AOC is offering a four-session oral exam preparation course at Bellevue College.The training dates are on August 22 and 29, September 12 and 19, 2015, beginning at 8:30 am to 5 pm, with a one-hour lunch break on each day.
Language Training Offered For: Arabic, French, Korean, Mandarin, Russian, Spanish, and Tagalog
The fee for the four-day course is $150.00. You will receive a confirmation email and directions to the testing location upon receipt of your payment and registration form. Please register for the course by Monday, August 17, 2015. We will not accept registrations received after August 17. The AOC reserves the right to cancel the course if there are not enough registrations.
About the instructors:
Susana Stettri-Sawrey, Ph.D., is a Federal- and Washington State Courts-certified Spanish interpreter. She is also a co-founder and instructor of the Translation and Interpretation Institute at Bellevue College and long-time trainer in local and out-of-state programs. She worked for 20 years as Assistant Manager of the Office of Interpreter Services in King County Superior Court. Dr. Sawrey holds an M.A. in Romance Linguistics and a Ph.D. in Spanish Literature.You may contact her at for additional information about the course content and training approach.
She will begin the course with a half-day of instruction on developing skills that will help you while you are interpreting. For the remainder of the course, you will meet in small groups based on the language for which you are taking the oral exam. An experienced court interpreter in your language will be the instructor for your group. During those sessions, you will practice in the three modes of interpreting, analyze your performance, and learn how to improve. You will need to bring your own device to record and listen to your interpretations, such as a cell phone or an MP3 player with a recording and playback capability.
REGISTRATION INFORMATION
This course has been designed to help you prepare for the Certified Court Interpreter Oral Exam. To hold this training course, Bellevue College needs to receive a minimum number of registrations by Monday, August 17, 2015. If not enough students enroll, then we may have to cancel the course. If the course is cancelled,all payments will be promptly refunded.No payments will be processedbefore August 17, 2015.

If you must cancel your registration, we ask that you give as much advance notice as possible; a full refund will be issued to a student who provides advance notice via email to o later than Monday, August 17, 2015. Partial refunds for individual session cancellations made by attendees will not be allowed. However, if due to unforeseen circumstancesany instructor finds it necessary to cancel any one of the four class sessions and not offer a make-up class, all payments will be promptly refunded on a pro-rated basis for those students missing that class session.
