Pre-Medicare Retirees have the option of enrolling in either the Company PPO, CDHP or HDHP Plans. CDHP Consumer Driven health plan is new to us – look these over carefully the contract language has changed a little. As of today we do not know what the premiums will be.

Medicare-eligible retirees will have their ‘cap’ dollars deposited in an individual Healthcare Reimbursement Account (HRA) and be reimbursed for any medical expense under Section 213(d) of the IRS Code. The ‘cap’ amounts for a Medicare eligible retiree equate to $214 per month (single) or $428 per month (spouse/domestic partner.

The Medicare Retiree can now use this contribution to buy their “Medigap” coverage on the private market. The Company has retained a vendor – Extend Health – to work with retirees in selecting coverage. The retiree also has the option of purchasing a separate, personal plan. This will go into effect on April 1, 2014.

It is our understanding that Extend Health is still getting trained to answer our questions.

Retirees will also be able to “roll-over” any unused dollars year to year in their HRA for future medical expenses.

Training of Medicare retirees

n  The Company, the HRA Administrator and the Medicare Exchange service vendor are required to develop and present a comprehensive training and education program for the Local Unions and CWA Retiree Chapters to assist in the transition to the Medicare Exchange prior to meeting with eligible retirees.

It is expected that the Retiree Chapters and/or Local Unions will participate in any ongoing meetings and discussions with Medicare eligible retirees

Dental Plan

Dental and vision coverage were built into the total monthly premium under our old Plans.

n  Dental and Vision coverage are now separate, stand-alone options.

n  Vision is not available to retirees

BASIC DENTAL PLAN employees pay twice a month so double for retirees we pay once a month. Basic plan is $8 a month for retiree in 2014.

Plus it talks about Medigap supplemental plans, A B D F etc….You need to know the difference in a Medigap plan with a Medicare Part D, or a Medicare Advantage Plan. Make sure your doctor and hospital accept the plan you choose.

Good news: future retirees.

For those who retire on 1/01/14 or after, in the event of the death of the retiree, the surviving spouse/domestic partner will retain coverage under the Company healthcare plans and will receive the “capped” amount for their lifetime, but the surviving spouse/domestic partner must pay the required premium(s).

In this contract it also brings back some jobs from overseas.
