Northwest Section Meeting

  1. Welcome & Introduction – Susan Matter
  2. Northwest Section Meeting andDinnerwas held atMcMenamins Cedar Hills in BeavertonOR. There were 13 attendees (5 guests). Section officer not in attendance was Program Chair, Vernika Bhargava, Intertek.
  3. Prior to the meeting and dinner were presentations and a tour at Nike Campus, Beaverton, OR. Introductions by Vice-Chair LaShurya Wise, Nike, Inc.
  4. Presentations: Design Influence & Color by Kristin Van Buskirk, Color Design Lead, Nike, Inc.; Color Standards by Debbie Blalock, Sr. Color Specialist, Nike Inc.; Lab Dip Color Process by Elicia Howell, Color Developer & Kristi Rivera, Materials Asst., REI. Tour of Apparel Color & Testing Labs by Kristin Van Buskirk & Kham Viengkham, Materials Test Engineer, Nike, Inc. There were 16 attendees (6 guests).
  5. Several colorists expressed interest in having a conference call with other colorists in the industry to talk through the lab dip process. Interested parties should e-mail .
  1. Review & Approval of Minutes of January 19, 2010 meeting – Rita Holland
  2. Motion to accept the minutes was made by Nancy PeBenito and seconded by LaShurya Wise. Motion passed.

  3. WSU student chapter – 29 active members; SPU 1 member; OSU 1 member

  3. May 18 – 20: AATCC International Exhibition (IC), Atlanta, Georgia. Nancy commented that this conference has good programs by several trade organizations.
  4. Two NW Section members, Elicia Howell, REI and Mini Manalac, Nike are participating in a panel discussion – Sustainability: An Action Item.
  5. Karen K. Leonas, Ph.D. at WSU will be attending and extended an invitation to join her for coffee.

  2. By-Laws Update -- Nancy PeBenito
  3. A final draft will be sent to the membership for review/comment. This will be followed by a letter ballot to be sent by e-mail for final revote.

  2. Northwest Section Officers Meetings via conference calls held on March 4 & April 1 in which ideas were discuss on expanding our focus on student chapters.
  3. Suggestions as – a student focused event pertaining to green and sustainability; pool info from students as to their interests; recap of AATCC student chapters; mentorship program; dues sponsored program; job shadow event were presented.
  4. Susan will be making a visit to the WSU Student Chapter on 4/26/10.
  5. Jack Daniels (AATCC Executive VP) in a recent e-mail stated: “I am particularly encouraged with the care the section is giving to involving students and student chapters.”
  6. March 23 – 25: AATCC Spring Committee Meetings, Triangle Park, NC – Susan attended and has been elected Chair for Research Committee RA42, Dimensional Change Test Methods – congratulations, Susan.
  7. AATCC Regional Board Members – Susan Matter has been nominated for the Western Region, as the representative resigned earlier this year.
  8. Textile Insight ~ March/April 2010 – A article under Education by Kathlyn Swanko titled “Oregon State Conducts Research on Poplar Fibers” featuring our own NW Section’s Hsiou-Lein Chen, associate professor of Design & Human Environment at OSU.
