MINUTES OF THE ANNUAL PUBLIC MEETING OF THE PIGGOTT SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF EDUCATION HELD MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 2014

Superintendent, Charlie Powell opened the public meeting by welcoming everyone there.

High School Principal, Barry DeHart was unable to attend the meeting and Brock Swann, Assistant High School Principal gave the attached report for the High School. He told the public that the High School was fully accredited by the State Department of Education. He also told the public that for the 2013-2014 school year they were at Achieving School Graduation Rate, Needs Improvement in Literacy and Needs Improvement in Math. He gave the attached document telling them the Programs used to correct Literacy and Math deficiencies.

Mr. Swann told the public that the only changes in the High School Handbook were the changes made to the cell phone discipline policy and told them what they were. He also told them that the new programs at the High School were TLI, TESS and Eschool.

Elementary Principal,LeeanMann gave the attached 2014 Annual Report to the Public for the Piggott Elementary School. She told the public that the accreditation status through the Arkansas Department of Education for the past academic year 2013-2014 was “cited” due to one faculty member not being fully certified. She said this would be completed during the 2014-2015 school year.

Mrs. Mann told the public that the Elementary School was labeled a “needs improvement” school for math and literacy Benchmark scores. However, they are in the top 20% state wide with their high test scores.

Elementary Principal, Erica Harris, went over the changes in the Elementary Handbook concerning no balloons allowed on school buses and the chewing of gum in the classrooms.

She said this year they were using NWEA for their testing and that Math in Focus replaces Saxon Math and they are also using Eschool.

Pam Hickson, Federal Clerk, told the public that the Title I allotment is $238,359.62 for the 2014-2015 school year and that most of the funds are used for salary and benefits for 4 full-time instructional assistants and 1- .50 FTE instructional assistant, and for 1- .50 FTE federal programs clerk. She said the funds are also used for professional development for teachers, supplemental materials and supplies for their classrooms and for parent involvement activities that meet federal requirements of this title.

Mrs. Hickson told the public that Title II-A funds in the amount of $39,101.26 are being used for the salary and benefits for one 1st grade teacher.

Mrs. Hickson told the public that the 2014-2015 allocation for Title VI state is $17,424.16. The district is planning to use this for professional development expenses and classroom supplies at both campuses.

Mrs. Penny Toombs gave an overview of the PACE Program. She said they had 27 elementary students and 49 high school students.

Board President, Julie McMillon told the public that the AnnualPublic Meeting was over and they were going to recess and move to the District Administrative Office for the September Regular Board Meeting.
