Position:Community Outreach Associate

Reports to: Community Impact Manager, CalWORKS

Type: Full-time, Non-exempt

Summary: The mission of United Way Monterey County (UWMC) is to engage the community and focus resources to improve lives in Monterey County. The CalWORKS Community Service program is operated by UWMC on behalf of the Monterey County Department of Social Services (DSS). The goal of the program is to better prepare clients to enter the workforce. TheCommunity Outreach Associateplaces CalWORKscustomersin meaningful volunteer positions where they can enhance their work experience and develop new skills.

Scope of Work:

  • Receive participant referrals from case workers and create participants files.
  • Interview clients and place them in appropriate volunteer opportunities.
  • Prepare and receive notices of placement from nonprofit agencies when new referrals are finalized.
  • Recruit and build strong agency partnerships that meet the needs of the agencies and interests of the CalWORKs participants and identify meaningful volunteer positions.
  • Coordinate site visits and evaluations.
  • Follow up on volunteer’s participation on a monthly basis.
  • Provide bilingual (English-Spanish), bicultural services on an as-needed basis.
  • Respond to inquiries from DSS case managers in a timely fashion.
  • Assist with other United Way projects including managing and promoting volunteer opportunities, and organizing and staffing special events
  • Other duties as required or appropriate.

Position Requires:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to details
  • Self motivated, able to work as both a team member and individually.
  • Bilingual/Biliterate English/Spanish.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office Suite applications and willingness to learn case management database software.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and a reliable automobile.
  • Travel by car throughout Monterey County, daily or weekly as needed.
  • Willingness to work nights and weekends on occasion.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent work experience, preferably with an interest in social work, human services, or psychology
  • Knowledge of social services and nonprofit agencies in Monterey County.
  • Ability to work effectively with staff and volunteers from diverse backgrounds.
  • Skill in negotiation and conflict resolution.

Compensation: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.
