Comments/Explanations

Jockey B McCoull pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 120(b) in that he accepted rides in Races 5 and 8 for which he was subsequently found to be overweight and was fined $300.

Stewards accepted the explanation of Scott Brunton for the late notification of rider on Berroco in Race 4 tonight.

RACE 1 – MATTHEWS FAMILY 3YO & UPWARDS MAIDEN PLATE – 1400 METRES

Big Pegg jumped away awkwardly and inconvenienced Dance South.

Near the 1200 metres Olly’s A Star got its head up when being restrained.

Big Pegg made the turn awkwardly at the 1200 metres.

Regal Quality raced wide throughout.

Over the concluding stages Dance South laid out when under pressure.

From the 150 metres Brazen Soldier hung out.

Beau Mertens rider of Ruby Heart which performed below market expectations could offer no explanation other than the filly failed to respond to his riding from the 300 metres.

RACE 2 – MEMBERSHIP FOR LIFE CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1400 METRES

Correct weight was delayed when Anthony Darmanin rider of Just Run requested to view the official patrol film over the concluding stages. After doing so he was satisfied and correct weight was declared.

Stella Etoile and New Vision were both slightly slow to begin.

Shortly after the start Miss Yearn shifted in and brushed Lord Farquaad.

Stella Etoile raced wide throughout.

Brendan McCoull rider of D’Ampezzo which performed below market expectations explained that the gelding did not appreciate being pressured when leading and failed to respond to his riding from the 300 metres.

Passing the 300 metres Before All was briefly held up for a run.

Ismail Toker rider of Aventador explained that the gelding was ridden closer than its previous start as he rode out from the barrier with a view of trying to obtain a position with cover. However he was unable to do so and elected to continue to race forward. Stewards accepted his explanation.

Jason Lyon rider of Reann’s Diamond which performed below market expectations explained that the mare had a tendency to over-race during the middle stages of the event.

Subsequent to the event connections reported that Aventador cast a near hind shoe in running.

RACE 3 – SUE REES MODELLING & DEPORTMENT ACADEMY CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1200 METRES

After entering the course proper from the mounting yard The Stockman reared and dislodged rider Sherry Barr. Sherry Barr was examined by the on course ambulance officers which revealed bruising to her left cheek as well as bruising and a graze on her right elbow however she was passed fit to fulfil her engagement. The Stockman was examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to take its place in the field.

Acting on a report from the Starter that Flame Of Hope reared behind the barriers harmlessly dislodging the rider then proved difficult to load and became fractious after being placed in the barrier, connections were advised that the gelding must complete a satisfactory trial prior to racing again. When assessing to order that a trial be completed, Stewards were mindful of the gelding’s recent record.

Following advice from the Starter that Anpao reared and harmlessly dislodged the rider before the start, connections were advised that a warning has been placed on the mare’s barrier manners.

The starter advised that O’Rayo attempted to sit down in the barriers on several occasions prior to the start, therefore Stewards advised connections that the gelding must complete a satisfactory trial prior to racing again after considering O’Rayo’s recent record.

Tayla Patterson-Doyle rider of Gee Gees Jet accidentally dropped her whip prior to the starter releasing the field.

Flame Of Hope jumped in at the start striking the barrier before shifting in making contact with Son Of Faith which jumped outwards.

Approaching the 400 metres Flame Of Hope and Watch Over Me raced tightly and made contact with each other on a number of occasions unbalancing both horses. Son Of Faith which was following Flame Of Hope had to be restrained to avoid that gelding’s heels as a result of this incident.

Passing the 300 metres Udayan was briefly held up before shifting to the outside of Helera in an attempt to improve its position.

The Stockman raced greenly throughout.

Ismail Toker rider of Flame Of Hope which performed below expectations and commenced to give ground from the 300 metres explained that after receiving some interference shortly after the start the gelding felt sore for the remainder of the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.

Daniel Ganderton rider of Meteor Strike which raced wide throughout explained that the gelding over-raced for the majority of the race and failed to respond to his riding from the 300 metres.

RACE 4 – ADMIRAL 3YO & UPWARDS MAIDEN PLATE - 1200 METRES

Glenferry Road jumped away awkwardly.

Mount Nevis was inconvenienced when tightened for room between Mel Loves Vodka and One Forda Goodguys which jumped in.

Approaching the 1000 metres Gee Gees Talk Fest shifted in away from Hoodwinked and brushed Scarlet Vixen. One Forda Goodguys which was following had to be restrained to avoid that mare’s heels. Shortly after One Forda Goodguys shifted out abruptly and made contact with Bella Abati which had to be checked.

Passing the 1000 metres Gee Gees Talk Fest had to be checked to avoid the heels of Hoodwinked (A Darmanin) which continued to shift inwards. Anthony Darmanin was notified that he would be expected to straighten his mount sooner than he did on this occasion.

Approaching the 800 metres Mel Loves Vodka when improving had to be restrained off the heels of Scarlet Vixen. Mel Loves Vodka continued to be restrained for some distance thereafter.

Rounding the home turn and in the home straight One Forda Goodguys raced greenly.

Passing the 400 metres Mount Nevis, when improving into a narrow run between Point Du Jour and Westside Miss (B Muhcu), was then tightened when Weststide Miss shifted out slightly. Shortly after this Mount Nevis had to be restrained to avoid the heels of Westside Miss, which again shifted out slightly. Bulent Muhcu was notified he would be expected to have far more control of his mounts than he did on this occasion.

RACE 5 – MEMBERS QUALITY HANDICAP – 1100 METRES

Shortly after the start Valiant Warrior shifted out and brushed with Grand Tycoon.

Near the 800 metres Merrick’s Beauty had to be restrained to avoid the heels of Valiant Warrior which shifted in to obtain a trail behind Geegees Doublejay.

Shortly after Sound Bar shifted out and took Sh’Bourne Spirit out off its course for a short distance.

Near the 300 metres Valiant Warrior had to be restrained to avoid the heels of Grand Tycoon (D Thornton) which shifted in. Damien Thornton was reminded of his obligations to be fully clear when shifting ground.

Between the 400 and 200 metres Merrick’s Beauty was held up for a run.

Approaching the 100 metres Merrick’s Beauty had difficulty obtaining a run between Grand Tycoon and Innocent Gamble.

Over the last 100 metres Sh’Bourne Spirit laid in when under pressure.

Damien Thornton rider of Grand Tycoon reported that the gelding commenced to hang from the 400 metres and in the home straight he did not ride it out in his normal manner. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near fore. Connections were advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be submitted prior to Grand Tycoon racing again.

RACE 6 – TAS & MARGO SUPPORT THE CLUB BENCHMARK 72 HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

Connections of Dream Roller were advised that a warning has been placed on the gelding’s barrier manners after it proved difficult to load and lashed out on several occasions.

Ryan’s Daughter raced wide throughout.

Anthony Darmanin rider of Frolicked which performed below expectations explained that the mare usually races up on the pace however was unable to obtain that position and could offer no explanation for the performance.

Bulent Muhcu rider of Ryan’s Daughter which performed below expectations could offer no explanation for the mare’s performance tonight.

RACE 7 – BECOME A MEMBER OF THE CLUB BENCHMARK 82 HANDICAP – 1400 METRES

Player One was slow into stride.

Shiralee Maher rider of Jakcorijim was found guilty of a charge under the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(ii), the particulars being that she used her whip on 10 occasions in a forehand manner prior to the 100 metres which is 5 more than the requirement of the rule. After considering submissions on penalty and taking into account Mrs Maher’s record in relation to this rule, she was fined the sum of $200.

RACE 8 – MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS BENCHMARK 72 HANDICAP – 2100 METRES

Near the 500 metres Geegees Baritone shifted out and bumped with Perplexing.

Ismail Toker rider of Das Good which was eased down in the home straight explained that he was instructed to ride the gelding aggressively and attempt to increase the pace of the race from the 700 metres as Das Good was one paced and connections felt this tactic may assist it to be more competitive. Trainer Terry Roles confirmed the instructions given to Ismail Toker and further advised that the gelding will now be retired.

Race 6 – Leigh Flaherty City Cars Benchmark 62 Handicap – 1400 metres

Victor Wong rider of Aslanyon was severely reprimanded under AR 137(a) careless riding the particulars being that approaching the 1200 metres he permitted his mount to shift ground inwards when insufficiently clear of Tambro’s Game resulting in that mare having to be checked. Victor Wong was notified that he must ensure he is sufficiently clear of other runners when in similar circumstances.
