When Things are Strange, 2017
A National Juried All Media Exhibition (except video).
This exhibition is organized by The University of North Dakota’s Department of Art & Design and seeks artwork of any media on the topic of when things are strange. This exhibition wants to see the things you find strange, odd, peculiar and even magical or bizarre. This theme crosses many subjects such as portraiture, montage, documentary and surrealism. From the mundane of everyday life, to dreamscape realities or to the circus show of contemporary politics we want to know what you find or create that is strange, unusual or out of the norm.

When Things are Strange, 2017 is organized by The University of North Dakota’s Department of Art & Design and seeks artwork of any media on the topic of when things are strange. This exhibition also receives funding from the Myers Foundations.
MEDIA:
Open to all 2D and 3D media. No video.
SIZE LIMIT:
All 2D work must be framed no larger than 24” x 36”. All 3D work must be no larger then 24” in any direction, weigh no more than 70 lbs when boxed, and if a wall piece, weigh no more then 10lbs. All 3D wall pieces must come with all hanging hardware to be exhibited.
ELIGIBILITY:
This juried exhibition is open to national artists of all levels (professional, emerging and students 18 years and over). There is no commission fee. Anyone interested in purchasing work from an accepted artist in the exhibition will be forwarded to the individual artists.
AWARDS:
Best of Show$300.00, three $50.00 Honorable Mentions and one UND Purchase Award will be given out. Award checks shall be mailed at the end of the exhibition.
ENTRY PROCEDURE:
Please copy and paste the Entry Form from this website into a WORD file or send us a document to include, your contact information, title, sizes, media and prices of entries, with your images and your Paypal transaction#. Images must be formatted and presented according to the directions below.
--Please format images to an RGB profile.
--The largest dimension (width or height) should be 1200 pixels on the longest side with the other dimension proportional. Your entry must be received in one complete email!! Do not send multiple emails!!
--All images must be saved at 72 ppi, 8 bit
--Label with last name and entry# (i.e. Smith01.jpg or Smith01Detail.jpg)
--Images must be e-mailed to

JUROR:
Fran Forman is a Photo-Painting Artist, Graphic Designer, Illustrator and assemblage artist. Her artworks have been included in permanent collections of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, The Grace Museum, Abilene and the North Down Museum in Northern Ireland. She has had solo shows of her photo-paintings at the Henry Fox Talbot Museum, Lacock Abbey, England as well as the Griffin Museum of Photography. She has won awards from the Julia Margaret Cameron awards, invited to take part in the China2nd Biennial International Photographic Cultural Festival and Exhibition and placed second in the World Photography Gala Award to name a few. She is a recipient of several grants, including one from the Puffin Foundations. Her book, The Art of Fran Forman, was awarded one of the Best Photobook of 2014. She is currently resident scholar at the Women’s Studies Center at Brandeis University and teaches workshops at selected schools across the US and abroad. Ms. Forman is currently represented by Pucker Gallery (Boston), Afterimage Gallery (Dallas), Susan Spiritus Gallery (Newport Beach, CA) Sohn Fine Art Gallery (Lenox, MA and Photomethode (Austin).

ARTWORK SPECIFICATIONS:
All artwork must be presentation ready, original and if glazing is needed, use of plexi-glass only (no glass!) for 2D works. All 2D works must be wired for hanging with no saw tooth hangers! 2D work must be no larger 24” x 36”. All 3D wall pieces must not exceed 10lbs and a maximum of 24” x 24” and all hardware needed for display must be included with shipped work. Larger 3D works must be 24” x 24” or smaller and weigh no more than 70 lbs. We will provide pedastools for 3D work.
DELIVERY & RETURN OF ARTWORK:
All Artists bare the sole responsibility for shipping to & from the gallery for exhibition purposes. Work should be sent in a reusable container, securely packaged, clearly labeled and sent with a return shipping label prepaid for either UPS or FEDEX. No Peanuts please!
