This summer I am participating in the 19th Friends for Life Bike Rally, a fundraiser and life-changing experience. On July 30, 2017, I’ll begin cycling to (Port Hope or Montreal) – joined by over 300 other riders and crew. But the real effort begins today – raising money to benefit the Toronto People With AIDS Foundation (PWA).

Established 30 years ago, PWA has helped 9,000 men, trans-men, trans-women, women, and children living with HIV/AIDS in Toronto. Each year, hundreds of new clients register for a spectrum of services ranging from practical services including the food bank or financial assistance (assisting with the uninsured cost of medications), to treatment access and information, to therapeutic services such as massage, acupuncture or naturopathic therapy or practical health and well-being services support through peer programming.

My commitment to training and riding is motivated by an undertaking to raise a minimum of $2,500 in donations. My personal goal for this year is <$X> and I would love you to be my partner and help me achieve this goal. Your pledge of support will not only be appreciated by me, but first and foremost, by all the people we can help together.

Every donation is appreciated and makes a positive difference. Here are some ideas to help you make that decision:

A generous gift of $500 will provide supplies necessary for ALL the acupuncture treatments provided at PWA in a year (over 500 in 2015/2016),
$200 supplies a family with groceries for one week (Essentials Market Food Bank),
$140 provides 18 clients with massage to alleviate the pain of peripheral neuropathy, a frequent complication of HIV treatments,
$60 will pay for a member of PWA’s Speakers Bureau to educate listeners about
living with the virus and dealing with associated stigma,
$50 will provide one PWA volunteer with a two-day training in CARE
(Competencies in Awareness, Respect and Empathy), guaranteeing a better
experience for clients of PWA.

No matter what the amount you decide to donate, I want you to know that your generosity will have a direct impact on the lives of the clients of PWA. I hope you’ll be my partner in this effort.
