Minutes of the Membership Meeting
December 6, 2006

  1. Following a wonderful Holiday dinner provided by Blake’s, President Carl Kress called the meeting to order at 7:35 PM.
  1. A quorum was in attendance and the minutes of the previous Membership Meeting were approved as amended to include Jack Calloway in the list of Blake’s gift certificate winners.
  1. A new member was introduced – Robert Bucey
  1. President’s Report – Carl Kress

A moment of silence was observed in memory of Mike Jordan.

Carl:

  • thanked Jerry Blake and Rick Callaway for their valuable contributions to the WCMGC.
  • stressed importance of following “pace of play” guidelines.
  • reported that the newsletter will be revived thanks to Hugh Ferguson. Target for first edition is 1/2007.
  • reported that many gift certificates remain unclaimed in the Pro Shop (with no expiration date)
  1. Vice President’s Report – Peter Kohn

There will be few changes in terms of tournaments (referred members to website for list of tournaments). One change will be that all tournament scores will be posted by Rick Callaway, after cards have been signed by the player.

  1. Secretary Report – No Report.
  1. Treasurer Report – John Jones
  • WCMGC is on budget for 2006.
  • Although over 300 people have renewed for 2007, the 2007 budget requires 500 members. Members were asked to remind friends to renew.
  • The 2007 budget was approved by the membership.
  1. Business Manager’s Report –No Report.

  1. BOGCAC Report – Stan Janczura

Bathroom renovation will begin in January.

  1. Handicap Chairmen’s Report – Frank Rogers

Effective 1/1/2007, the Exceptional Scoring policy has been revised by the Board to include posting of all tournaments that capture individual scores. As indicated above, all tournament scores will be posted by Rick Callaway after cards have been signed by the player

  1. Tournament Chairmen – Edward Ruiz/Ramana Mallela

2007 tournament schedule has been posted on the web, is posted in the Pro Shop, and available in hard copy after the meeting. 23 tournaments scheduled for 2007.

In response to a question, it was noted that the former 3 club tournament held in January was dropped in 2006 because of a lack of participation in the preceding years. If there is enough interest in reviving it the Board will consider it for re-inclusion in 2008.

  1. New Business – Carl Kress
  • Carl reported a donation of $100 was made in Mike’s memory to the City of Hope. Other options discussed by the Board include a memorial bench (cost approximately $700- $1000) by the upper putting green (near the driving range) and a $350 annual scholarship in Mike’s name to the Junior Golf Camp. The membership approved moving forward on both suggestions. Beginning contributions were collected at the meeting.
  • In response to a question, Carl will look into converting unused gift certificates to $ for the memorial fund.
  1. Presentation of Awards
  • Awards were presented to Rick Callaway, Doug Duval and Frank O’Connell for their three years of service on the board of directors and many contributions to the WCMGC.
  • The Club Champion Trophy and Plaque were to be presented to Jim Reynolds, the 2006 Club Champion. (Jim was not present.) Irene Schreiber was recognized for her outstanding work in bringing the trophy back to its former polished glory for the presentation and her other work in support of the club.
  1. Guest Speaker – Bill Kepler

Bill discussed various technologies used in golf equipment such as shaft architecture.

  2. Free Tournament: Joe Fuchs
  3. Free Lessons: John Stanfoth, James Gee and Chuck Carmel. Note: Ron Binder donated 2 free lessons that he had previously won, which accounts for why there were 3 winners.
  4. Kepler’s $50 Certificate: Rich Hanford
  5. Blake’s Certificates: Marty McNally, Jerry Bennett, Rick Zelasny and Frank Rogers
  1. Many raffle ticket winners were drawn and presented with a sleeve of balls.
  1. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 7, 2007
  1. The meeting was adjourned at 8:55 PM.
