Activities: / The teacher will present background on the author, Keith Devlin, aka ‘The Math Guy”.
His MOOC-(massive open online course) at Stanford University entitled “Intro to Mathematical Thinking” will be discussed, as will his math video game (Wuzzit)
Dead reckoning will be defined.
The Math Instinct

Wuzzit videos / The teacher will review dead reckoning and have the students follow as ‘The Math Instinct’ by Keith Devlin is read. The essay discusses the innate and uncanny directional abilities of the Tunisian ant.
The necessary textual evidence to answer the written responses will be discussed and then the Selection Tests will be distributed. / General-Students will be reminded how to find errors in grammar in topic paragraphs and then work with peers to practice the skill.
Honors-Students will be reminded of the steps of a sentence combining exercise and then work with peers to practice the skill. / General-Students will continue reading the Laurie Halse Anderson novel Twisted and compete the related written work.
Honors-Students will continue reading the JD Salinger novel Catcher in the Rye and complete compare/contrast connections to The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath.

Karaoke Sign Up / The teacher offered the students a day of celebration for work well done and in honor of homecoming week festivities.
