Notes:

·  Gender specific restrooms should have signs stating where the nearest gender-neutral restrooms are located. This way, even if a building does not have a gender-neutral restroom, students are able to safely locate one.

·  The preferred signage for a gender-neutral restroom is a picture of a toilet. Symbols of people (male/female/otherwise) are not necessary to represent a restroom. Most likely the restroom will be designed with people with disabilities in mind, so next to the toilet the image we generally see associated with ADA accommodations would be placed next to the image of a toilet. Further, below the images, the words gender-neutral restroom should be on the sign. The image described is at the top of the first page of this document.

·  All restrooms that are currently gender-neutral have various signs that are not uniform. Current gender-neutral restrooms should have their signs replaced with the sign design stated above. This way all of the restrooms are uniform and easily recognizable.

·  New Gender-neutral restrooms installed should be front facing (not around a corner) preferably placed close to gender specific restrooms.

·  Any new buildings being built that have restrooms should also have gender-neutral restrooms

·  Anytime a renovation is done to a building or section of a building in which the building that does not have gender-neutral restrooms, gender-neutral restrooms should be installed as a part of the renovation.

·  Athletic buildings and fields should also be a top priority, Athletics are often what makes universities well known among the nation, when our sporting events become popular it will be important to have gender-neutral restrooms available for fans to utilize.
