Purpose of the New Role:

The UoN has an ambitious vision over the next five years set out within its Global Strategy 2020. One of the key elements of the strategy is the acknowledgement that fundamental change is needed in some elements of the organisation to achieve its goals of valuing diversity and promoting equality. The challenge to engage with staff on how we motivate, support and enable them to achieve this, and embed the values of the People Strategy across the organisation, will be a key focus of this role.

Working within the HR Specialist services team, responsible for the delivery of strategic HR projects / specialist services and support to the University, this post will support and engage with the implementation of a strategic approach to Equality and Diversity and engagement including: supporting academic and professional service units; support at University level; data management; programme coordination and events; and networks and events.

The purpose of the role is to provide management, support and coordination to ensure the successful implementation of the culture strand of the People Strategy. The role will work across all academic and professional service units and campuses to support equality and diversity events, external accreditation activities (e.g. Athena SWAN submissions at school and University level), together with data analysis and management and support for wider culture and engagement initiatives.

Main Responsibilities / % time per year
1. / Supporting academic and professional service units:
To act as a key contact and coordinator for the implementation of the People strategy, culture strand (including equality and diversity policy, university initiatives, external accreditation requirements and service delivery). In liaison with colleagues contribute to the operational and strategic planning requirements for strategy delivery through planning and organisation of meetings.
Coordinate and provide support across all schools and units for external accreditation submissions, eg Athena SWAN, Equality Race Charter. Act as a source of advice and guidance to colleagues on the processes, action plans, continuous monitoring and evaluation requirements and deadline management activities. / 30%
2. / University level support
To manage, support and oversee the University’s Athena SWAN accreditation process and wider relevant external accreditations as applicable. Work with colleagues to organise appropriate meetings acting as secretariat to committees (to include all preparation of logistics, organisation of papers, minute-taking, post-action planning and distribution, together with all follow-up requirements).
Work on specific projects to implement and coordinate University wide policy, plans and actions that support, enhance and engage with the People strategy.
To advise on any changes to applicable UK regulatory policy (e.g. relating to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) and how this may affect University operations. / 30%
3. / Data management
Develop robust guidelines and resource mechanisms for the oversight and management of appropriate data and information relating to good practice and its dissemination across all units.
Work with colleagues across all schools and professional services to monitor, analyse and coordinate appropriate datasets to support accreditation requirements.
Disseminate information on changes and updates to colleagues to ensure accurate, up to date requirements are communicated and understood. / 15%
4. / Coordination of training and events
Communicate actions, developments, initiatives and events through various mediums (hard copy, social media, web-based etc) working with colleagues to ensure maximum coverage and audience is reached. Write and communicate reports and papers for the appropriate audience.
Lead, manage and coordinate events and conferences that support the People Strategy in liaison with the External Relations team and other associated University units. / 10%
5. / Networking and development
Develop and support the regional networking forums – organising and chairing meetings, preparation of papers, liaison with guest speakers, acting as secretariat to the meetings (where appropriate). Liaise with the Equality Challenge Unit and act as a point of contact for the Athena SWAN institutional submission and any consultations. Pro-actively engage and disseminate information/changes in policy to colleagues.
Promote services and respond to enquiries by building effective working relationships with colleagues across the University. / 10%
6. / Other
Any other reasonable duties as required, in accordance with the nature and grade of the post. This job description may be subject to revision following discussion with the person appointed and forms part of the contract of employment. / 5%

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience

Essential / Desirable
Qualifications/ Education / ·  Honours Degree or equivalent and significant experience in similar / related roles
Skills/Training / ·  Ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels and to work effectively and collaboratively with academic and administrative colleagues
·  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (including oral and written skills)
·  Ability to give presentations in a clear and articulate manner
