Dear Parents & Friends of the School

Going around the classrooms, I can see the progress the children are making in learning their Maths basic facts. These are essential if the children are to make future progress in Mathematics.

The syndicate leaders report that the children are making good overall academic progress and that this progress is accelerating. Great news!

MUFTI DAY

The school will be having a Mufti Day on Tuesday, 8th April.

A gold coin donation please – all money raised to go to Rotary.

ABSENCES

If your child is absent from school, do please let us know. You can phone us on 836-3175 or you can text us on 027 436-3175. If you do this, it would be most appreciated. Having to phone you to check on the unexplained absence of your child is taking a lot of time.

KEL ROBINSON CUP

The Kel Robinson Memorial Cup was awarded this week to Recan Kauwhata from Rm 7 for participating in all areas of school life and showing the 5 C’s. Congratulations!

PTA FUNDRAISING

ENTERTAINMENT BOOKS

The PTA will be selling Entertainment Books again this year. These are $65 each and the school receives $13 from each book sold. They are valid from now until 1st June 2009. There is over $15,000 worth of vouchers for restaurants, entertainment venues, and accommodation – Kelly Tarltons, Skycity Cinemas, Pizza Hut, KFC, McDonalds and many more! Help support your school.

Kids Art Festival

17th May, 11 - 4.pm, a fantastic free family event at the Corban Estate Arts Centre. Performers, stalls, and the chance to try a range of arts activities including weaving, painting, clay work, paper making, junk art assemblages, printmaking, building a sculpture, and storytelling.

WEST AUCKLAND FAMILY SERVICE

The West Auckland Family Services is looking to recruit new caregivers to boost their pool of Foster Caregivers. Caregivers should be families who are willing to open their hearts and their homes to nurture and help children through a difficult time in their lives.

WAITAKERE ECO CITY CHALLENGE

The inaugural Waitakere Eco City Challenge will take place on Sunday 13 April. It is a navigation challenge exploring the many pathways and green spaces of Waitakere City. This event is for all ages and abilities, and teams can be between 2 and 5 people. Teams will navigate their way, using the map provided, to as many checkpoints as they can by walking, running or travelling by bus. Get a team from work, school, family or friends together for this fun day out! Heaps of spot prizes including two LCD/DVD TVs!

PARNELL DISTRICT SCHOOL GALA DAY

Parnell District School’s 135th Birthday Gala Day – Sunday, 13th April 10am – 3pm.

28 stalls selling home made preservatives, cakes and sweets, plus toys, books, clothing, sports gear, white elephant, and much much more. There will be plenty of entertainment for the children, plusdelicious food from a range of vendors, a live auction at 12pm, and music and performances by the children of Parnell District School throughout the day. Pop the date in your diary – everyone welcome!

AFTER SCHOOL SERVICE

McLaren Park and Henderson South Community Initiative will be offering an After School Service from the beginning of Term 2 for 5 to 14 year olds at Henderson South School. Activities include regular drama and singing sessions leading to a talent quest at the end of the programme; children setting up an edible garden to grow plants, learn about the seasons, develop an understanding of healthy food, and eat the results; and a wellbeing programme which will include voluntary service, physical activities and business enterprise.
